Washington (CNN)It should be tall, climb-resistant, difficult to penetrate and blend into the landscape. Those are among the requirements for the US-Mexico border wall released by the federal government late Friday, kicking off a bidding process that will lead to one of the largest government construction projects in US history.
"The wall design shall be physically imposing in height," Customs and Border Protection outlined in the notice for contractors. That means 30 feet tall, although the officials wrote that "designs with heights of at least 18 feet may be acceptable."
The wall must also be impossible to climb without a ladder, and should make it difficult to use "common and more sophisticated climbing aids," like grappling hooks.
In addition, the wall must resist attempts to penetrate through or under it. The request specifically mentions it must successfully endure for at least 30 minutes -- but ideally more than four hours -- attempts to bore through it with a "sledgehammer, car jack, pick axe, chisel, battery operated impact tools, battery operated cutting tools, Oxy/acetylene torch or other similar hand-held tools. . ."

They make autocannons that seem to work for the SOKOs
Or even better some of these or even these, for our wall of course. 8>)
"One does not simply walk into Texas."
Yes... build it like the Great Wall and open it to tourists... bigly

It's so over 2,000 miles long and can be seen from space. Here's some photos"
18 feet is a joke. 40 feet minimum. 50 in height is better, the footing extending down to bedrock below, or down 30 feet minimum if no bedrock exists within 30 feet, with sound, vibration and other sensors that technology affords down another 30 feet below the lowest point in the footing; i.e., sensors 60 feet below ground level, and deeper than that if it can prevent tunneling.
No toe holds should be in the wall, no cracks, with the wall itself made of very thick re-inforced concrete having manned gun towers that are each able to cover the two nearest towers on their left and the two nearest towers on their right, manned at all times (at least in the beginning until Mexico gets that we’re serious).
Cost to build and cost to operate and maintain of very little concern to us because Mexico is going to pay. They can reduce their cost in the years going forward by discouraging their citizens from crossing illegally.
Deploy the Boeing X31 in stationary orbit and link it ground-based LEO.
If we can read the license plates, surely the technology exists to strike the problem areas.
You’re right. Apparently, the US Constitution now applies to foreign nationals on foreign soil. Smh.
Let’s try for an X-37
Or even better some of these or even these, for our wall of course. 8>)
There is a simple way no wall required. Just post signs.
“YOU WILL NOT GET WELFARE”
“NO MORE BIRTHRIGHT CITIZENSHIP”
“YOU WILL BE PROSECUTED FOR WORKING ILLEGALLY AND YOUR BOSS WILL HAVE THEIR BUSSINESS CONFISCATED AND LIQUIDATED”
“YOUR CHILDREN WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN US SCHOOLS”
“USA HEREBY ADOPTS MEXICAN IMMIGRATION POLICIES”
End birthright citizenship and illegal immigration will be cut 90%
Spending available money on a wall might mean less for the manned border crossings. During rush hour when many thousands of people are crossing at the same time, how can the under-manned officials possibly spend the time to separate those with legit papers and those with “rented” papers?
Few people cross in the desert and tunnels. They make for great Hollywood movies. Not much else. The big volume of illegal Hispanics enters on 1) valid tourist, student and other visas that expire and 2) rented valid papers that are rented for the half-hour of the crossing and then returned to the family business that lent them the papers.
The whole wall discussion displays an amazing ignorance of reality. Trump promised it to get votes and it worked.
Recycle intermodal trailers triple-stacked and painted desert camo.
Sounds good, but our military cannot have police per Posse Comitatus.
So, the department of Defense cannot defend????
You can read up on on this law, but no the military can not use police powers within the country without first taking steps. I suppose this is to keep from having a military state. The Guard can be used for certain reasons. But, I believe for day-to-day purposes, they would use Border Patrol, ICE (DHS), DEA, etc.
The DOD - our Military - defends on a daily, regular basis against threats off of our soil. I suppose in an act of war on our soil, they would be called on as well. But, as bad as this is, we are not at war with Mexico or any other nation.
