Lou Dobbs: Speaker Paul Ryan Should Resign
Brietbart News ^ | March 14 2017 | Neil Munro

Posted on 03/14/2017 12:46:17 PM PDT by drewh

House Speaker Ryan should resign his post, says Lou Dobbs, the anchor of Lou Dobbs Tonight on Fox Business Network.

Dobbs Tweeted his resignation call Tuesday morning after Breitbart posted a pre-election recording of Ryan saying he would never defend President Donald Trump, and as multiple GOP legislators walked away from Ryan’s Obamacare replacement proposal, the American Health Care Act.

In the audiotape, recorded Oct. 10, 2016, Ryan told his fellow GOP legislators that ““I am not going to defend Donald Trump—not now, not in the future.” Ryan spoke shortly after the public heard the Access Hollywood tape of Trump’s conversation in which he said about women that “when you’re a star, they let you do it. You can do anything.”

Dobbs followed up his call for Ryan’s resignation with two Tweets calling for the full repeal of Obamacare. One Tweet describes Ryan’s proposed alternative as “RyanCare,” and said it is failing.

According to the leaked audiotape, Ryan said about his reaction to Trump’s comments:

There are basically two things that I want to make really clear, as for myself as your Speaker. I am not going to defend Donald Trump—not now, not in the future. As you probably heard, I disinvited him from my first congressional district GOP event this weekend—a thing I do every year. And I’m not going to be campaigning with him over the next 30 days … Many of you on this call are facing tough reelections. Some of you are not. But with respect to Donald Trump, I would encourage you to do what you think is best and do what you feel you need to do. Personally, you need to decide what’s best for you. And you all know what’s best for you where you are.

I’m sure Trump supported Ryan at the end, but only after ignoring him (at best) during the primaries.

Even though I think it is a stretch to use that quote to prove Ryan’s disloyalty to Trump, I still suspect Ryan of being disloyal to Trump.

Ryan needs to prove his worth. He is bright and hard working, as long as he really is working for you.

I am going to get flamed probably for this, but the context of this situation needs to be recalled.

I didn't stop supporting Trump in the wake of this episode, but Ryan wasn't talking about defending Trump in anything other than the context of these remarks. IIRC, even Melania had the same reaction.

Ryan may or may not be a weasel--but these remarks and the context within which they were spoken do not have anything to do with Trump and the current situation.

but I recall early on he was a “conservative” darling on FR.

He balanced the budget 10 years from whenever. Wa going strong until they found that video to him rolling granny off a cliff in her wheel chair.

He tried to get the House to remove the stipulation that he could be called up for a new vote on his speakership but I think they turned him down on that one.

While I am at it maybe we should recall what McConnel said when asked about that crazy Trump, he declared they had ways to deal with a runaway President. Apparently they only work against white guys though.

It really doesn't matter if Trump trusts Ryan. Neither one of them owes the other one anything. We have three separate branches of government, and this government works best when it operates independently.

Trump was absolutely a "loose cannon" at the top of the ticket. For some of us, that was his best attribute.

For heaven's sake -- the guy openly campaigned against several items in the national Republican Party platform!

Let’s get real. Paul Ryan was selected because no one else wanted the job (including any member of the freedom caucus). It’s easy to shout about things so that’s where they want to be. They don’t want to have to make actual decisions and be forced to deal with the reality that, in order for a bill to pass, they will need to get the support of Collins AND Cruz

Trump didn't openly endorse Nehlen, but he made a point of making positive public statements about him during the primary campaign.

I'm sure Trump's people pulled him aside and told him that it didn't make any sense to give the impression that he was supporting a guy who was going to get his ass kicked in the primary.

Ryan’s comments about not defending Trump were clearly in the context of defending Trump’s statements on the Access Hollywood tape (about grabbing women by the genitals). Out of context.

That might be true if he had limited his remarks to the vulgar tape but he didn't say he would not defend his remarks, he said he would not defend him now or in the future.

Ryan > McConnell

No sense getting rid of a bad leader when it just paves the way for someone worse.

Kevin McCarthy is worse than both of them.

It does not take long to turn most Tea Party congress critters once they get to DC. And it’s even harder to root them out.

Remember that the Turtle declared they must marginalize the TeaParty people before they get to DC.

That’s not what I heard the RINO say. If he specifically said he couldn’t support Trump’s statement that would be one thing but he didn’t. He also had the option not to say anything, of course being the politician he is, he just couldn’t help himself...

I’d bet Ryan rolled on the floor laughing when he heard Dobb’s call for his resignation. They don’t care what the people think of them.

Dobbs is acting like Ryan made those comments five hours ago, not five months ago.

You are acting like you don't care how old were the comments Trump made? Which were crude but true by the way.

I tend to agree. I thought maybe Ryan was going to cooperate and ride the Trump coat tails. Tax cuts should’ve been first. The lame excuse was they have to be deficit neutral. Says who? So healthcare first. So now we have to Fix the dems broken down law that was specifically designed to fail. We have control of every branch surely we could pass what we wanted. They passed obamacare with less than 60 votes in the senate! Was obamacare deficit neutral? Then he starts with the border tax.

This is as an irreverent “revelation” as the Access Hollywood tape itself.

Dobbs should run for Congress in 2018 against Josh Gottheimer or Senate against Bob Menendez in New Jersey.

Gottheimer beat Scott Garrett.

You have to wonder how much influence Ryan’s wife has on him. She is a democrat who was a lawyer and lobbyist championing liberal causes. She is now a stay at home mom, but liberals almost never change.

I doubt that Trump mentioned Nehlen more than once. Anyways, in either case, that is still a long ways off from “go out of his way to promote the guy” as you stated in your defense of Ryan.
