One of the fundamental ways scientists measure the well-being of a nation is tracking the rate at which its citizens die and how long they can be expected to live.
So the news out of the federal government Thursday is disturbing: The overall U.S. death rate has increased for the first time in a decade, according to an analysis of the latest data. And that led to a drop in overall life expectancy for the first time since 1993
Most notably, the overall death rate for Americans increased because mortality from heart disease and stroke increased after declining for years. Deaths were also up from Alzheimer's disease, respiratory disease, kidney disease and diabetes. More Americans also died from unintentional injuries and suicide. In all, the decline was driven by increases in deaths from eight of the top 10 leading causes of death in the U.S.
"When you see increases in so many of the leading causes of death, it's difficult to pinpoint one particular cause as the culprit," Anderson says.

“Life Expectancy”
Whose expectancy is it, mine or theirs?
“The overall U.S. death rate has increased for the first time in a decade, according to an analysis of the latest data.”
I wouldn’t be surprised to see a reversal of this starting in about 2018. A decade = 8 Obama years + 2 Bush years. I don’t know about anyone else, but during that time my “human spirit” was at an all-time low. The idea of living 15-20 more years in that morass was not uplifting.
Pollyanna here, but once Pres. Trump gets this country back on track people’s will to live might get a kick-start.

I wonder if the Rust Belt Rebellion States ( OH, PA, MI, WI ) ethereally sensed this issue on top of being sick of 8 yrs of everything that was Obama, and voted accordingly.
May God Bless President Donald Trump as he works ferociously to bring back Jobs and the Dignity they bring to those who lost Hope during a time we had someone elected who's poster was Hope...
That ain’t no joke, I know 4 people who lost their insurance because it became too insanely high and now if something happens to them, they are basically effed financially. Obamacare for all intents and purposes was a terrorist attack upon the citizens of this country but I would expect nothing less from the traitor who was our POTUS for 8 years. People have DIED from this, people who lost their insurance and couldn’t afford to see a doctor and lost their lives as a result such as cancer that wasn’t detected early or heart issues that weren’t discovered. We have millions of people now such as people over 50 skipping annual colonoscopy exams because they can’t afford the $1,600 out of pocket cost, people skipping heart exams and then dying because of it. Meanwhile these pig rat bastards in Congress made themselves exempt and states like California have the gall to give free healthcare to illegals so basically it was stolen from the citizens and given to criminal foreign invaders.
Thanks Obama. Can you imagine what the lamestream media would do with this chestnut had a Republican been president the last eight years?
I agree.
Even people who were "covered" were stuck with high deductibles that many couldn't afford.
Obamacare in action
The effect of having fake insurance that has deductibles that prevent from using coverage
Eight years of the country going hard left under Obama and the idiocracy the liberals have shoved down our throats has taken its toll. The country is a freaking psych ward. Who wants to live 100 years anyhow? The libs will take all your money and have you looking for work when youre eighty years old.
As a healthcare provider, I can say that is is the absolute truth. Every other person you see out there is on some kind of psych med.
“The largest jump in deaths has been from heart disease.”
BUT WAIT!!
The STATINS are supposed to be the wonder drug to prevent all that.
The original studies are as flawed as the Global Warming and DDT studies. Someday....someday...I pray Statins will be exposed as the scam they are.
Do your own research. They even admit on their published disclaimers that there is NO evidence they prevent or reduce heart attacks!
Statins don't help those that are terminally obese.
Obese people who go for low car diets (which I think is what you are talking about) tend to lose weight and improve their blood markers.
You’re joking, right?
In the German factories there are hundreds of bicycles in front of the shops, and it is amazing how trim everyone is. The women are very attractive and appear well adjusted.
The only people that drove were the directors of the companies and they were built like Americans. Affluence increases lifespan but it may be due to safer neighborhoods and better healthcare.
let in primitive peoples and get primitive stats.
Environmentalists celebrate!
Today, your doctor is likely to be wearing a turban.
We don’t want the Red Chinese standard of living (where everyone rides a bike to work); I don’t have the answer, but taking our cars won’t help.
A friend described a similar scenario in CA (near Sacramento); because the weather was so nice for so much of the year, people did a lot of things outdoors and even old people were active & healthy. Here in the NYC metro area, weather will never cooperate...
The data examined the top 10 leading causes of death in the US. They remained the same from the previous year, with eight of them growing in the number of fatalities they caused. Those were heart disease, respiratory disease, unintentional injuries, stroke, Alzheimers disease, diabetes, kidney disease, and suicide.
Cancer, the second leading cause of death of the studied diseases, killed more than 595,000 people in 2015, but its death rate still dipped slightly from 2014.
While death rates rose for white men, white women, and black men, they stayed essentially the same for black women, and Hispanic men and women.
You are right. My Mom used to go to town once every 2 weeks. She would buy an 8 pack of Pepsi in bottles for a family of 5. What a treat. Today that is 3 44 ounce drinks at the C store. Availability is a major factor in today’s obesity and diabetes problems.
