That should take some time! He was as prolific as Porter! :)

He also wrote a short piece for string quartet, a piano concerto, several other pieces for piano and orchestra, movie soundtracks and an opera. He was a giant, and even Rachmaninov, Stravinsky and Ravel thought highly of him.

Well today, Saturday is miserable cold. I have not seen the
Cardinals .....they stay with us year around.
Probably just trying to save energy.

Lucked out there.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

COLE PORTER

HIGH SOCIETY

This 1956 musical remake of “The Philadelphia Story” featured a pastiche of Cole Porter tunes from other shows, but Cole wrote one original song which made its way into the Great American Songbook.

BING CROSBY & GRACE KELLY: “TRUE LOVE”

This clip from the movie is a cinematic gem. The simplicity of the song is what makes it work.

Rats!
You Tube is all messed up! I installed the latest flash player but it hasn’t helped. I don’t know what to do next...do you?

Whenever I have You Tube misbehave on me, I simply reboot. It usually clears up the problem.

ELVIS PRESLEY: “TRUE LOVE”

This 1957 recording shows that Elvis was at his best when he opted for simplicity.

Thanks.

Listening to Bing right now.

KEELY SMITH: “TRUE LOVE”

No Fauxcahontas here! The Cherokee lady, whom Sinatra worked with and respected, handles a 1962 jazz version backed by Billy May. She really swings.

Cole was not known for simplicity, which is why people are surprised to learn that this was one of his songs.

Also, it’s pretty “Tender” which is usually not Cole’s lyrical style.

It’s a tribute to his versatility that he could change gears so late in his career.

GEORGE HARRISON: “TRUE LOVE”

The greatness of a song can be measured by its ability to transcend genres. This 1976 recording from the former Beatle is pure Seventies, but the song doesn’t suffer from it.
