He also wrote a short piece for string quartet, a piano concerto, several other pieces for piano and orchestra, movie soundtracks and an opera. He was a giant, and even Rachmaninov, Stravinsky and Ravel thought highly of him.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
COLE PORTER
HIGH SOCIETYThis 1956 musical remake of The Philadelphia Story featured a pastiche of Cole Porter tunes from other shows, but Cole wrote one original song which made its way into the Great American Songbook.
BING CROSBY & GRACE KELLY: TRUE LOVEThis clip from the movie is a cinematic gem. The simplicity of the song is what makes it work.

Whenever I have You Tube misbehave on me, I simply reboot. It usually clears up the problem.

KEELY SMITH: TRUE LOVENo Fauxcahontas here! The Cherokee lady, whom Sinatra worked with and respected, handles a 1962 jazz version backed by Billy May. She really swings.

Cole was not known for simplicity, which is why people are surprised to learn that this was one of his songs.

Also, it’s pretty “Tender” which is usually not Cole’s lyrical style.

It’s a tribute to his versatility that he could change gears so late in his career.

GEORGE HARRISON: TRUE LOVEThe greatness of a song can be measured by its ability to transcend genres. This 1976 recording from the former Beatle is pure Seventies, but the song doesnt suffer from it.
