WASHINGTON — The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, asked the Justice Department this weekend to publicly reject President Trump’s assertion that President Barack Obama ordered the tapping of Mr. Trump’s phones, senior American officials said on Sunday. Mr. Comey has argued that the highly charged claim is false and must be corrected, they said, but the department has not released any such statement.
Mr. Comey made the request on Saturday after Mr. Trump leveled his allegation on Twitter. Mr. Comey has been working to get the Justice Department to knock down Mr. Trump’s claim because there is no evidence to support it and it insinuates that the F.B.I. broke the law, the officials said.
A spokesman for the F.B.I. declined to comment. Sarah Isgur Flores, the spokeswoman for the Justice Department, also declined to comment.

Yup, a total crapfest from the NY Times. All anonymous sourcing, not a single substantiated statement, and even IF Comey is pushing for anything behind the scenes it may prove to be merely some clarification or some Clintonian parsing of words.
ZERO indication so far that anything is wrong with President Trump’s tweets.
Even if there is parsing to say “Obama” didn’t “order” a warrant (duh, we know that) or that “Trump” was not the “target” of wiretapping, none of that means that there was not surveillance against some of Trump’s team initiated by the Obama WH in some way or other.
This NY Times story is worse than useless, it is the usual squid-spurting ink to cover and obscure the issues.
I don’t think Comey is wrong here, if this report is accurate. If the FBI is going to be tasked with investigating this matter, then it is in everyone’s interest to do it without having to deal with an allegation by the sitting President that might be construed as an attempt to prejudice the investigation

You know, Hubris is probably the Occam’s Razor explanation. NSA probably said OK Hillary, we ran a line to your house that taps Trump’s stuff, do with it what you will. Pagliano hid it away from the other servers in the ‘office’, grabbed data, and used it as a backup/mirror server for the email servers upstairs when it went croaky and never removed the mirror.
Then it all went haywire from there, and Pagliano took the 5th because NSA strongly counseled him to.
Watch how many ways the media will use phrases like “no evidence”, “denied” and “unproven” to describe the wiretap story yet bends over backwards not to use the same phrases in the “Russian hacking” story.

Apparently the Internet revolution passed you by. Fewer and fewer people get their information from newspapers, and only a fraction of that small number rely on the NYT. Only ~30% of people in general give even some credibility to the legacy media. Were it otherwise, Trump would have lost.
For most of us, not you or your cat, but for most of us a story has a source.
The source will have a name attached, and it will not be “senior American officials”. WTH does that mean?
Our best source is found in the tweets of Donald Trump, the president, who is unafraid to point and speak, and sign his name.
I’m not sure where Loretta Lynch fits into this, but I recall she scurried to give immunity to lots of players. She’s gone full-blown anarchist now, calling for blood in the streets.
It just occurred to me that the POTUS could have been expecting this from Comey and flushing him out.
The FBI was not accused was it? So why is Comey making that statement?
It could have been other agencies working with Obama instead of the FBI. Right?

Exactly what I was thinking earlier. It’s no wonder Hillary was blindsided by her loss. With all the mechanisms the globalists had in place to assure her win she didn’t even bother to campaign. No wonder she’s pissed at Obama.

Why does all this charge and counter charge stuff need to be handled behind closed doors? Why can't everyone just put their cards on the table in public view and let the chips fall where they may? All this skulduggery is so harmful to our country and to those of us who voted for Trump.

That is also how I see it. Much ado about nothing.
Fake News is, for the most part, the NYT, WaPo, and CNN. They hate conservatives, they hate Trump, and they have a proven track record of lies and propaganda. You can argue that they are trustworthy, reliable sources of honest news. The average liberal would agree with you.
