WASHINGTON — The F.B.I. director, James B. Comey, asked the Justice Department this weekend to publicly reject President Trump’s assertion that President Barack Obama ordered the tapping of Mr. Trump’s phones, senior American officials said on Sunday. Mr. Comey has argued that the highly charged claim is false and must be corrected, they said, but the department has not released any such statement.
Mr. Comey made the request on Saturday after Mr. Trump leveled his allegation on Twitter. Mr. Comey has been working to get the Justice Department to knock down Mr. Trump’s claim because there is no evidence to support it and it insinuates that the F.B.I. broke the law, the officials said.
A spokesman for the F.B.I. declined to comment. Sarah Isgur Flores, the spokeswoman for the Justice Department, also declined to comment.

Comey himself may have known about it, but let it pass because his NYC office wasn't involved. I wonder if Lynch and the NSA were the culprits. Just a thought. Who really knows.

Yeah, I'm 65 years old and even subscribed to the NYT before I knew any better. I have never heard them refer to sources as "senior American officials" before.
On Fox, legal analyst says the unconfirmed “report”is that FISA court rejected the warrant TWICE and it was approved on the third attempt after being narrowed. This happened, no Obama didn’t do it personally but let’s get real.

There is no news here. It is just an FBI director trying to cover his rear by getting ahead of the story to say he did nothing illegal by taking an order from a President to tap the campaign. Nowhere does Pravda DENY that the FBI requested DOJ to apply for the tap. In fact the DOJ did so twice, rejected the first time and then political appointee Lynch on her own applying for it a month before the election a second time. No one nowhere is DENYING that the campaign was tapped.Nothing was found and then the White House ultimately got access to the info as “national security” info.
The fact that a Presidential contender’s campaign was tapped is shocking. Last time that happened both a FBI director and an Attorney General went to jail. Both Comey and Lynch are aware of this
The FBI director reports to the AG. This isn’t new at all.
If the claim is false all the more reason all the more reason to investigate to see what is true or a damned lie. Liars under oath must be put in jail. If not the total judicial system fails and thus the rule of the gun prevails. The good guys have most of the guns and can shoot at hundreds of yards with accuracy. This ending is most undesirable.
Our most brillent forefathers of the Constitution undersstod this. They gave us the second amendment to the constition for this horrible cirumstances. They were brilliant.
Why the hell is Comey and the assistant DOJ guy still in there? Trump is so good at firing people, why didn’t he really clean house? These idiots sticking around are making things disastrous, plus Sessions folded like a cheap camera in recusing himself.
