Why would he hold a press conference to resign? Let’s employ some common sense here.

I would only note in passing that the press spokesperson for Sessions is one Sarah Isgur Flores, who was one of the women rumored to have been “associated with” Ted Cruz, and who worked for the Fiorina campaign which subsequently received a large cash contribution from the Cruz campaign (or a superPAC, I can’t remember for sure which.
Is this relevant? Probaly not.
Do I trust her? Definitely not.
Hopefully he will go on the attack. I also hope—and would like to expect—that the ongoing investigation of Clinton related crime—will shortly lead to some very interesting action by the FBI.

Session has spent an entire lifetime building an honest reputation. He is not going to back down. He will defend his honor.
Hopefully he will use this press conference to announce that a special prosecutor is going to be appointed in the Clinton email scandal and the Clinton foundation scandal.
