AG Sessions Accused Of Lying To Congress Over Contact With Russian Ambassador
Zero Hedge ^ | 3-1-2017 | Tyler Durden

Posted on 03/01/2017 7:36:32 PM PST by blam

Just when you thought the 'Russians-did-it' meme was fading, WaPo reporters manage to find DoJ officials who say then-Senator Jeff Sessions spoke twice last year with Russia’s ambassador to the United States - encounters he did not disclose when asked about possible contacts with Moscow during his confirmation hearing to become attorney general.

At his Jan. 10 Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing, Sessions was asked by Sen. Al Franken, a Minnesota Democrat, what he would do if he learned of any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of the 2016 campaign.

“I’m not aware of any of those activities,” he responded.

He added: “I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians.”

And now, as The Hill reports that according to The Washington Post report, President Trump's attorney general, Jeff Sessions, spoke twice with Russia's ambassador to the United States while Trump was on the campaign trail.

Justice Department officials said one of the meetings was a private conversation between Sessions and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak in Sessions's office. The private meeting reportedly took place during the same time intelligence officials have said Russia was interfering with the U.S. presidential election through a hacking campaign.

Officials said Sessions did not consider the conversations relevant to the lawmakers’ questions and did not remember in detail what he discussed with Kislyak.

“There was absolutely nothing misleading about his answer,” said Sarah Isgur Flores, Sessions’s spokeswoman.

To your point about Sessions and why Flores wound up with him, I don’t know. I think Cruz and Sessions had been tight at one time. Perhaps Ted suggested her. I honestly don’t know what to make of all this. Seems rather strange.

True. Sessions was merely a Senator who supported Trump, not a “member of the campaign.”

Tucker Carlson exposed Cornyn in an amazing 10 minute interview as a complete fraud.

Did you notice that Cornyn kept saying that he was elected not to represent the the wishes of his constituents but to use his judgement as to what is right or wrong for his constituents?

Cornyn represents everything that is wrong in Washington and the GOPe.

Primary this POS!

During the confirmation hearings, Sen Leahy (Asshat-Vt.)asked Sessions, in writing, if he had any contact with the Russians at any time in 2016. Sessions replied in writing, "No".

There is some confusion whether the question included,"regarding the Trump campaign".

Let's see where this goes. In the fullness of time, all shall be revealed.

That was very "Progressive" - as in early 20th Century Progressivism - of him.

The $500k to begin with was interesting. Why give that much money to another candidate?

Wasn't the $500K transferred to Fiorina just before or just after Fiorina defended Cruz against charges of infidelity?

Jeff sessions has been a senator for 20 years. He knows where all the corruption is; I’m surprised they even confirmed him.

At Fox, their personality programs are great but their news division sucks. That’s what I said... Not talking about Hannity, Tucker, etc..But if you want to tell me Shep Smith is good, take a hike.

Removing Trump would be totally lacking in legitimacy. It’s becoming very obvious to people what’s going on here.

Franken question....
it’s obviously extremely serious, and if there is any evidence that anyone affiliated with the Trump campaign communicated with the Russian government in the course of this campaign, what will you do? ///Sessions denies knowledge of any contacts.

Sessions was NOT part of Trump’s campaign and he was part of Senate Intelligence committee when he met Russian ambassador..... Sessions did not lie.

Democrats will try to frame this as more Russian crap of course.

I take Cruz to task stridently, based on him not giving a S whether Trump or Hillary won last year. That being said, I didn’t follow the news about him having affairs.

I’m just not up to speed on it.

You and Jane Long may be on to something. I’m just not aware of the topic enough to contribute.

I agree. They need to immediately start going on offense and bringing up the many misdeeds and shady appearing dealings of the Democrats. NOW. Remember Scooter Libby! Things start out ridiculous and small and they just don’t let go and it ruins an administration with fabricated wrong-doings that are miniature compared to what they actually do. ENOUGH! Plame’s name mentioned. HUGE DEAL, Ambassador killed, nothing to see here, lies about a film, oh well, ha, ha, delay...and then it was a long time ago, so silly and they slide...saying “let’s move on”.

Yep. But fighting back is going to be messy.

Fight with what? Our gelded congress critters, Ryno and Yertle the turtle?
President Trump simply refuses to dignify the charges with a response, takes court orders from ‘rat judges under advisement and proceeds with enforcing the law,
He punishes GOP turn-coats and cities refusing to comply with federal law by cutting their funding and orders his cabinet to go forward with his one hundred day program.
I suppose that would be ‘going to the shoulders’. So yes, take it to them.
