Secure the border FIRST. The rest is an unconscionable sop to lawbreakers.
The devil is in the details; I’ll bet it would be hard to prove a long work record and one would probably have to pay back taxes. And that, sounds a bit like the gang of 8 bill but at least, citizenship is denied.
Well, that strong stand did not last very long.
Can I get a pass on not paying income taxes? I work hard and want a better life, and if tens of millions get a pass on breaking the law, then where is my free pass?
We need immigration law enforcement and the border wall. Trump should use his power to enforce existing law and not fool around with Congress and any sort of comprehensive bill at least until the laws have been enforced for one full presidential term.
So much for that wall.
The Democrats won’t ever do a deal on immigration. They want this problem to exist in politics, not go away.
No new laws to benefit those breaking the current ones.
We did that in 1986 and got 10 times the number of illegal aliens.
We need Comprehensive Immigration Enforcement.
30 years of that and I may consider a compromise on any left.
Unfortunately, if this story is true, Trump will be sorry and our country indelibly changed by letting young people most already radicalized by their parents and others in the culture who think Mexico owns the Southwest because the horrible Americans stole it. They will continue their radicalism with the blessing of really ignorant like Trump and unconcerned people in love with power like most in Congress. Do not make the same mistake Reagan did.
Most Dreamers have a legal right to go to school in their own country and can apply for education visas in the U.S. from there while living with the deported parents.
Hard hearted? Not if you think of them as stealing the dream from legal American residents, mostly Gringos they disrespect.
Cannot believe Trump will fall for this.
>> to pass a compromise immigration reform bill
Anticipating a bill that will displease many from both sides. But the best bill we’ll see in our lifetime will likely be one from President Trump.
My guess:
- Dreamers stay
- Long-timers stay
- Criminals deported - zero tolerance
- Some type of temporary work visas for the remainder.
- no undocumented, no freeloaders, workers are taxed.
- strict felonies for employers gaming the system.
“The time is right for an immigration bill as long as there is compromise on both sides”
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Compromise” is politician speak for amnesty.
why are we compromising ??
enforce the need for a ss number or get fined !
we own the house and senate .?
compromise what ?
this new tone crap with the left wing media is an iceberg ahead moment .
“Trump said, according to CNN’s Jake Tapper. “
Hmm. Should I trust CNN’s Jake Tapper?
This is the iceberg that does not have to be hit.
Jared and Ivanka strike again. I doubt this came from Bannon.
The time is right to enforce existing immigration law.
He is about to see his base support evaporate, and does he think he think the liberals will support him?
” .... Trump said, according to CNN’s Jake Tapper.”
That right there tells you this article is pure bovine droppings. Any faint hearts here sipping the MSM kool-aid and swooning from the vapors should re-read his Contract With America, and his statement of what he intended to do on his first day, and during his first one hundred days.
25. “Work with Congress on an End Illegal Immigration Act Fully-funds the construction of a wall on our southern border with the full understanding that the country Mexico will be reimbursing the United States for the full cost of such wall; establishes a 2-year mandatory minimum federal prison sentence for illegally re-entering the U.S. after a previous deportation, and a 5-year mandatory minimum for illegally re-entering for those with felony convictions, multiple misdemeanor convictions or two or more prior deportations; also reforms visa rules to enhance penalties for overstaying and to ensure open jobs are offered to American workers first.”
This is MSM wishful thinking. Tapper is a partisan hack. CNN is fake news.
Donald Trump is president because he promised to remove ALL illegal aliens and then keep them out. Anyone here in violation of our immigration laws has to go back.
All he’s doing is prioritizing, as he said he would. In his first one hundred days he promised to have ICE locate, arrest and remove alien felons, the really bad hombres, and that’s exactly what he’s doing.
He’s savvy enough to know that if he welches on his contract with us, he’s toast.
There is simply no way that Trump will be able to deport all of the illegal aliens. I think he will harden the resolve of his political opponents—which includes many Republicans—if he deports the hard cases, i.e. people who came here as children and stayed all their lives, aka Dreamers. There is room for compassion toward some, but as another FReeper posted, the devil is in the details.
The vast majority MUST leave, the wall MUST be built, penalties against employers MUST be enforced, visa overstays MUST be tracked down and deported, etc. When Trump compromises—I’m sure he will—he has to be able to prove the problem is actually solved. We can’t be back to open borders as usual in a of couple years.
That’s my two cents for what it’s worth.
I want to see the borders secured first. And only after they prove the borders are secure do I want to talk about the illegals here.
I was at first puzzled and then concerned that AG Sessions has had so little to say so far. And nothing that I’ve heard from him on immigration. He’s made statements about marijuana and rising crime, but not on the subject he’s probably devoted the largest amount of his time to since 2006.
Just who has Trump been listening to concerning immigration? IMHO, it would be a serious betrayal of his supporters to start any sort of negotiations with Congress for a new immigration bill. NO reason to compromised about any immigration matter this soon. He needs to do all his can under existing law - which has been largely ignored since 1986 - and have nothing to do with any new immigration bill until current law has been enforced for a good number of years.
