Google-owned robotics firm and nightmare factory Boston Dynamics has released video of its latest creation: a two-wheeled, four-legged hybrid robot named Handle.
The robot can stand on four legs, like Boston Dynamics previous creations such as BigDog and Spot. But at the end of its back two legs are two stabilised wheels, which let it stand up vertically and roll around at speeds of up to nine miles per hour. Think Terminator riding on a hoverboard and youll have a pretty good idea of the impression Handle gives off.
Boston Dynamics says the reason for the hybrid design is the simplicity it affords: rather than needing the complex joints of the fully-quadrupedal bots, Handles wheels can speed it around with little difficulty, while its front legs can be used for balance and for carrying loads of up to 50kg.
Handle uses many of the same dynamics, balance and mobile manipulation principles found in the quadruped and biped robots we build, Boston Dynamics said, but with only about 10 actuated joints, it is significantly less complex. Wheels are efficient on flat surfaces while legs can go almost anywhere: by combining wheels and legs, Handle can have the best of both worlds. The video does not, however, show Handle walking rather that scooting around on its wheels.

Also useful for hauling crap.
It would be hardened for EMP in a military version.
I've been warning about this for a long time.
Yes, Terminator robots will be built, and they will be controlled by the forces of totalitarianism.
I want one that can vacuum, dust, wash dishes and pour iced tea.
That is what I really needed around here.
I’ve seen a few posts recently indicating that the autists on 4Chan have been able to triangulate the location of ISIS camps in Syria using just a published photo of the camp. Terrain, buildings, angle of the sun, things like that. Then they turn it over to Russia so it will get bombed. Is this actually true or an elaborate ruse to trap the MSM into publishing it?
Hey Robby - can you roll down to 7-11 and pick up some milk and eggs for me?

Then mow the grass...
Is it bulletproof?
Fascinating. Not terrifying, but I’m pretty sure Michael Bay was behind the spec to have it convert from cycle-type to upright and back again.
Very impressive, but how well does it handle a rocket launcher and/or a minigun?
And no doubt they will be powered by fuel cells converting bio-mass (shudder).
They are in the process of creating the perfect human replacement, AND KILLING MACHINE. The implications are genuinely frightening.
Once "perfected" in a few short years no human will be able to compete with or protect themselves from these malevolent monstrosities. Arm it with a plethora of weapons and you have T2 on hyper steroids.
Imagine an anti-American administration like Obama's having access to this technology and unleashing it on those of us conservative Americans the Democrat party refer to and deem deplorables, irredeemable, "right-wing terrorists" and "the enemy"!
That is the point and its ultimate purpose.
I welcome our new robot overlords.
When they start powering these things with nuclear energy, look out.
It is possible to do this under the right circumstances. You just have to have the data (which you can get from satellite) and knowing some information (such as the time) the Shadows will get you pretty close to the actual site.
Could be a lot of work, but we've used this technique when we were hunting Bin Laden. I don't doubt it is possible for people with enough information to replicate it.
the autists on 4Chan
lol
lol
Yes, sometimes "nuts" is an advantage. :)
I hear that Handle is so unique that it is composing an oratorio.
The working title is rumored to be ‘Handle’s Messiah’..
;-)
Or tannerite?
