Pretty cool. Might be a lot lighter than lugging around a plate carrier.

“Quantum foam, makes me roam.”
~Character early on in Michael Crichton’s “Timeline.”
Does it stop neutrinos? No? Meh.
It is really neat that they told the world how it is made.
Decimates? That word does not mean what you think it means, Ms. Barrie.
So put a layer of it into the crew capsules as well.
As an aside, this still sounds like it might be too bulky to use as a replacement material for my tinfoil hat.
More spin off alien technology?

Gamma rays?
That will be useful since gamma ray exposure can cause your tonsils to grow back.
It does what to bullets into dust?
Oh..., I thought this was a thread about a new birth control option.
I doubt it stops gamma very well. It takes mass, whether an inch of lead, five inches of steel, 20 inches of concrete, 40 inches of water. Beer’s Law applies to gamma.
The Zeigler Equation applies to cosmic rays. In some cases you get MORE radiation into your target as the cosmic ray decelerates in your shield and makes more, lower energy, photons by bremsstrahlung radiation. Another curious thing about cosmic rays is that at lower energies, they can deposit more energy per length than at higher energies, so by putting in say a 200 mil aluminum shield, you can increase the impact of the cosmic ray (shielding can modulate Linear Energy Transfer, LET).
It also stops x-ray, gamma rays, cosmic rays
And the foam doesnât just stop bullets. It destroys themâ¦this foam decimates bullets into dust.
Why?
There is no explanation in the article as to why this foam does these things.
It just doesnt make any sense. It is not a microfoam or anything that looks hytech and difficult to make. In fact it looks pretty low tech
Wow, pretty amazing if it pans out.
This will be great for our troops and law enforcement.
Great post, good tech, though I heard about this 10 years ago.
The anchor asking questiosn should have been the female, the ARMOR specialist should have been the DUDE.
Why is it that the MORE masculine the subject matter (football, for example) the more broadcast executives feel that subject MUST be covered by a FEMALE...?
It’s ridiculous.
Segment on yarn and SEWING:
Should the field expert be a DUDE..? No.
Segment on childbirthing —dude? No.
Segment on crushing beer cans against forehead: A chick? NO.
IT IS FREAKING EASY.
I’m fascinated. Gamma rays can be stopped with several inches of lead, concrete or steel. Wouldn’t it be easier to bulk up the ship rather than try to encase the astronaut?
