CVS Claims Smokers Just Quit
NACS Daily ^ | 22 Feb 2017 | NACS Daily

"When we removed tobacco from our shelves, a significant number of our customers simply stopped buying and hopefully smoking cigarettes altogether instead of just altering their cigarette purchasing habits," said Troyen A. Brennan, M.D., chief medical officer of CVS Health and an author of the study. "This research proves that our decision had a powerful public health impact by disrupting access to cigarettes and helping more of our customers on their path to better health.

While cigarette purchases were reduced across all retail settings after CVS’s decision, those who purchased cigarettes exclusively at CVS Pharmacy were 38% more likely to stop buying cigarettes, according to the study. Those who purchased three or more packs per month were more than twice as likely to stop buying cigarettes altogether. CVS paid for and wrote the study, and the journal article was peer-reviewed before publication.

Forbes reports that removing tobacco products from CVS’s 7,600 stores resulted in loss of $2 billion in annual sales that existed when it sold cigarettes. Since the chain’s 2014 decision, other drugstores haven’t followed suit. Walgreens, for example, says it’s placing more emphasis on smoking cessation programs, despite scrutiny from shareholders to follow CVS’s lead as a health-care-related provider and remove tobacco sales from its stores.

According to the NACS State of the Industry Report, more trips to convenience stores as well as CVS divesting its tobacco business helped cigarettes shift to positive sales growth of 3.4% in 2015. Cigarettes remain a top sales dollar generator inside the store.

So people were unable to buy from us what we did not offer and that means that they quit consuming that item.

So my butcher thinks I no longer eat carbs and my baker thinks I have become vegetarian? Nah. They are smarter than these guys.

"When we removed tobacco from our shelves, a significant number of our customers simply stopped buying and hopefully smoking cigarettes altogether . . ."

Just more of the liberals "look you in the eye and lie, knowing that you know they lie, but not giving a damn." routine that they usually use in political statements.

The local Mini Pet Marts sell a lot of tobacco. I guess if your pit bull starts jonesin’ for some second-hand smoke you better be prepared.

In other fake news, seven states have declared bankruptcy because their cigarette tax revenue was crushed by the CVS store decisions.

As a result the number of homeless increased in the cities of those states.

Propaganda goes both ways!

What a stupid statement. And just a reminder...they still sell the patches...which is simply a "hit for a price"...and they're super expensive. Now we know drugs are more profitable than heavily taxed cigarettes.

Yes..CVS saved the world!!

CVS is outrageously expense.

Example:
CVS house-brand antacid - 96 count - $4.99.
Kroger house-brand antacid - 96 count. $1.99.

“...those who purchased cigarettes exclusively at CVS Pharmacy were 38% more likely to stop buying cigarettes,...”

This sounds very much like democrat voters. They are easily manipulated.

Some one needs to sue CVS for selling antibiotics, heart medication, prophylactics of every kind, and antidepressants!

If they would just stop this nonsense a lot of people in the world would be a lot healthier and happier.

The tabacco section at the local drug store where I grew up was interesting. In addition to cigarettes, cigars, and pipe tabaccos and all their accessories, they carried all manners of chewing tabacco from the tame Skoal and RedMan tins and pouches to real twists of uncut plug cut and actual powdered snuff.

All that is gone nowadays.

Some c-stores around Des Moines have what I think are stunning arrays of tobacco products. Dozens of types of chewing tobacco and snuff in coolers, dozens of kinds of flavored cheap cigars up to Macanudo and Paratgas single packs. Not to mention a dozen brands of cigarettes and vaping stuff.
