Arizona Sen. John McCain delivered a series of blows to President Donald Trump Friday during a speech in Germany, and at one point he compared today's political atmosphere to the Nazi years of the 1930s and 1940s.
"In the four decades I have attended this conference, I cannot recall a year where its purpose was more necessary or more important," said McCain, who never mentioned Trump by name during his speech at the Munich Security Conference but referenced his policies several times.
"This panel is going to ask us to consider whether the West will survive. In recent years, this question would invite accusations of hyperbole and alarmism. Not this year. If ever there was a time to treat this question with a deadly seriousness, it is now."
While making his case, McCain who like Trump is a Republican mentioned Ewald-Heinrich von Kleist. Von Kleist was part of the group that plotted to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1944.
"What would von Kleist's generation say if they saw our world today?" McCain asked. "I fear that much about it would be all too familiar for them. And they would be alarmed by it."
McCain then tried to dismantle Trump's foreign policy (America First), his recent immigration order that critics called a Muslim ban, and some of the alleged untruths that have emerged from Trump's White House.
"They would be alarmed by an increasing turn away from universal values and toward old ties of blood, and race, and sectarianism. They would be alarmed by the hardening resentment we see toward immigrants, and refugees, and minority groups, especially Muslims," McCain said.
"They would be alarmed by the growing inability, and even unwillingness, to separate truth from lies.

I don’t really see McCain as “spewing venom at Trump.” McCain is a globalist. He differs. He’s wrong. Unless you’ve got inside information to prove a McCain donation to Soros you might well sign up as a champion of fake news.
He DARES to imply that Trump is equal to Hitler, and seems to suggest that Trump should be assassinated for the good of Our Republic?!?
That is PRECISELY my take on that statement. He exalted the efforts of an attempted assassination to be the standard to which we are shamed by comparison.
And there is only one leader to whom it could apply. The Secret Service should look into this.

He shouldn’t be let back into the country.
Once again, I’d just like to say, Thanks Arizona. Thanks.
Sumpin’ must be wrong with the water in Arizona or the sun’s too hot. Maybe they’ll reconsider and run him outta town next time.
Seems this should be basis for a recall effort.
“Why is McCain spewing venom at Trump?”
$$$$$$
His money
McAnus strikes again!
I cannot understand the good people of Arizona electing this nothing.
***********************
I’ve seen postings over the years from FReepers in AZ that explain this.
AZ has an open primary and Dems, knowing McCain is a “maverick” Republican that acts like a Dem, vote for him to keep a Dem-friendly in the Senate.
“McCain should be arrested.”
McCain was influence peddling in the early 1990’s. He and four other US Senators, known as the Keating 5, were owned by S&L operator Charles Keating. McCain should have been indicted, convicted and sent to prison for doing the bidding of Keating. Unfortunately the President George H.W. Bush Justice Department chose not to prosecute him and the Senate ethics committee gave him a pass. Since this narrow escape, McCain has curried favor with the mainstream press, backstabbing members of his own party in order to be a favored guest on the Sunday talk shows.
McCain should have been exposed and sent away over 25 years ago. Thanks to the Bush family, he is the gift that keeps giving.
Woulda, coulda, shoulda has been killing us in so many ways. All that evil, yet he lives to 80. Regrettable.
Neither did John McCain.
“Unless youve got inside information to prove a McCain donation to Soros you might well sign up as a champion of fake news
You can shove your freaking fake news crap. Are you so stupid as to think it is an original comment?
McCain doesn’t donate to Soros, Soros donates to McCain.
And it is not hard at all to go on the internet and find pictures of McCain and Soros together, head to head.
And you will not find another Trump supporter, or another America supporter, defending McCain.
And why would Soros donate to McCain? As a champion of Western Civilization? Methinks it is to soil the waters and sow discord. In your case it’s worked.
Keating Five McShame bump for later...
“And why would Soros donate to McCain?”
Because McCain is willing to do the bidding of Soros and sell out the country. That is what Soros does.
This conversation is over. You must be stupid.
‘Will the West survive?’
This guy is to bull shit what Stone Henge is to rocks.
Appropriate venue for a quisling to speak
Pact it up your ass queeg
This is a very obvious call, by a treasonous and vile John McCain, for assassination attempts on President Trump, inasmuch as Edwald von Kleist was the principle organizer and would-be suicider who attempted to kill Hitler in he Wolf's Lair retreat.
This is so egregious, he needs to be questioned by the Secret Service, closely watched and perhaps denied proximity to the President.
Yeah, all he did was, in an obvious implied manner, call for President Trumps' assassination.
"While making his case, McCain who like Trump is a Republican mentioned Ewald-Heinrich von Kleist. Von Kleist was part of the group that plotted to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1944.
"What would von Kleist's generation say if they saw our world today?" McCain asked. "I fear that much about it would be all too familiar for them. And they would be alarmed by it."
Yeah, comparing Trump to Hitler, and implicitly calling for Trumps' assassination, is so non-venomous.
