"Officials are anticipating a failure of the Auxiliary Spillway at Oroville Dam within the next 60 minutes (5:45 p.m.)," the California Department of Water Resources said on Facebook.

The Yuba County Office of Emergency Services said on Facebook an evacuation has been for "all Yuba County on the valley floor."

The city of Marysville and Yuba County have been ordered to evacuate, the Marysville Police Department tweeted.

“Is this the same dam that began to overflow into the spillway last week and the “officials” said everything was ok? “

Yes, the original spillway’s concrete apron failed so they could not use it at it’s rated capacity. So they had to us the “emergency spillway” which isn’t concrete lined and had NEVER been used. The problem as I see it is that they didn’t start releases from the dam at lower flow rates earlier, and it’s surprising because when you look at the graphs of the other major water storage facilities here, you can see that they have been releasing water for some time
Take a look here:

Just click on the name of the facility and the data comes up.

Pray there is no earthquake in the area.

I am not sure when they suspected plates in that area.

Sitting here in the Red Zone listening to news reports. Folks going nutso. Tweakers already looting what few downtown stores we have. No gas stations open. But hey! The Indian Casinos are open for business so no worries.

Traffic still heavy on our little country road, but we are set back so no one sees us. That was a consideration when we moved here twenty years ago. That and our property’s relationship with the dam. Thought all about that.

We have our flippers and nose clips at ready just in case.

The population of Colusa hasn’t changed in 50 years.
Every time a baby is born a man moves out of town.
Actually I was born in Colusa.....but I knew my dad.

Mostly rice, dairy, olives and walnuts up that way.

Probably 1/3 the nation’s rice crop and 1/5 of the olives. Walnuts and dairy much less.

Silt from the rivers would aid their production once it dries out, which it will.

Hang in there Magg. Don’t let the trolls get to you! Way up here in the mountains we worry a bit about spring snow/melts and slides. Fires also in summertime. (Well, Bears also), but nothing like this. Prayers up for anybody in the way.

There are rice, plums, peaches, some kiwis, walnuts,
and assorted other orchard and truck crops grown below
the Oroville Dam.

Thanks Tomkat and Fatima and all others. The lake level is dropping and almost below the emergency spillway. That should happen in the next half hour. Then the helicopters come in and start dropping rocks to fill the gap. Traffic is still heavy along our little country road. Lord knows where these people think they are going. Been like that for hours. Looters downtown.

Just checked out the door. The traffic has died down to nothing on the road outside out property. We can’t see the road, only hear it as we are nestled in away from the road.

Beautiful ButteryMoon is rising.

It’s all surreal. We were working like bandits this afternoon. I was down in the barn and kept hearing traffic. Strange but maybe folks were up checking out the dam or something, but it never ended. Wife turned on the radio and on the news was Oroville Dam. Well we never heard the telephone message cause out land line goes out during rains and cell service is crappy, but we were notified as we are in the Red Zone. By the time we heard to evacuate it was too late...

Homemade pizza tonight!

Things will be just fine. Weird though...

Thank you.

I rarely post research here these days ... seems to by the wayside of self-appointed blog police and other troll nonsense.
