"Officials are anticipating a failure of the Auxiliary Spillway at Oroville Dam within the next 60 minutes (5:45 p.m.)," the California Department of Water Resources said on Facebook.
The Yuba County Office of Emergency Services said on Facebook an evacuation has been for "all Yuba County on the valley floor."
The city of Marysville and Yuba County have been ordered to evacuate, the Marysville Police Department tweeted.

Youtube users are apparently engaged in a contest to see who can make the most ignorant comments.
Definitely the extreme stupid end of the bell curve.
I’m sure you are right.
The sun has set, temps have dropped so that is likely one reason for the overflow slowing down. The next two days will be in the 60s and partly sunny.

Did I copy to the wrong post? Didn’t mean to.
But still ... officials walk, no loss to them, unless they get really, really unlucky and a meteor falls on them. That’s just what life is like.
Well, you and I don't listen to gubmint officials the same way that libs do. We have a sort of built in propaganda decoder that automatically flips eveything they say 180 degrees.
I would have so been gone by now.
The worst case scenario
There is no map showing exactly what will happen if the emergency spillway collapses tonight. Officials only have a map showing a failure of the dam. That worst case scenario is useful in that it shows where water goes and how fast it gets there.
Water would get to the town of Oroville within an hour.
If Oroville Dam were to suffer a massive breach, water would get to the town of Oroville within an hour, according to GIS maps maintained by CalFire.
Within two hours, the small town of Briggs would be affected. In three hours, Gridley would be hit. Water would reach Live Oak in five hours..
It would take eight to 12 hours for the water to get to Marysville and Yuba City.
If the dam completely failed, flood depths could reach more than 100 feet in Oroville and up to 10 feet in Yuba City.
The CalFire maps represent a catastrophic breach and are not necessarily indicative of what could happen tonight.

As a retired naval engineer, I can say with authority that you are right.
The weir at the top of the “emergency spillway” is on drilled piers, so it isn’t going anywhere, but there is a void under the southerly end of it that could threaten the head gates of the main spillway.
If the hole enlarges more water will flow in uncontrollable areas.

Water went to the right, near that hill in your pic.
A width 3x that of the spillway.
.
That’s where the big hole is now.
About 50’ x 50’.
And they would say because it costs cheaper than other areas. Major areas of Sacramento and suburbs are in a flood area. Used to flood often until they built dikes, which may fail if the Oroville Dam fails. You may see lots of homes damaged in Sacramento area. I have relatives who bought in the area, much cheaper than San Francisco area. Very cheap in comparison.
They announced the hole under the spillway in the live news conference.
They are now discussing how to haul large rocks in with helicopters to plug the hole.
When the water first breached this spillway, it began taking chunks of earth with it. At the same time, dam operators knew that the lake level was rising faster than they could control it. This is serious incompetence in action.
(Hint: freebies for illegals....not da#n dam repair 😡 )
I do too, sort of. Well, a reservoir. Might even be above it. Anyway on a hill and very unlikely to be flooded. Prado dam is closest but it’s about 27 miles away, and the Santa Ana River flows to the sea north of me. Anything short of a biblical flood and I’m going to stay dry.
Was the gentleman wise enough to drag the Sierra Club
and other dam and water storage hating groups into
his explanation? These environmentalists are in the
middle of this and they own Brown and the rest of
the ‘Rats. To make it about Trump is going to take some
crafty work by the MSM, the propaganda arm of the
Democrat party. The state Democrat politicians downplay it
because they are joined at the hip with the
environazis, those who prevent increased water storage.
That hole was there yesterday; it’s expanding sideways and downhill; not upwards toward the dam.
