The Oroville Dam is the highest in the nation.
I think you are right. The EM spillway is going to fail on the left side first.
Your link says ended 11 minutes ago. Where was he in relation to this afternoon?
Do you know what sectors of agriculture are in the path? Grapes? Orchards? general produce?
“Its going to cut the mountain in half.”
Did you see that video of the water breaking through on the side. It was muddy and ripping up soil, rocks and trees.
I felt the same that you did above.
GOV. MOONBEAM played politics, meanwhile asking for federal funds.
I’m very happy no copter hit a drone ... meanwhile THOUSANDS are in a path of DOOM!
175 posts and no one blames climate change?
OK, that periscope vid pans to the right and shows both the spillway and the dam itself.
And the big @$$ pieces of concrete prolly are from that sinkhole; the water rushing into/over it can be seen... the force would rip em up... then the hill further down diverts the water to the right... toward the dam.
If the spillway gives way, it’s bad news too.
Watching live.
Massive traffic jam leaving Oroville. Hope they have more than an hour because it is going to take longer than that to get everyone out. The evacuation route is taking them over the river!!!
The danger appears to be where the emergency overflow barrier ends. Water is flowing over nothing but dirt.
Guess it’ll be dark in 75mins or so. At the worst possible time.
should have checked for global warming, there it is in the 5th post
Just got done watching another live feed and it is for sure running around the outside of the EM spillway. The area is where there is a parking lot and it is spilling over that area.
Depends on how well that ground holds up there if it breaches there or not.
That area is just to the left of the em spillway.
Same OP was briefly streaming as he was evacuating.
Presser up in 8 minutes!?
Thanks for that link!

This video shows the wide spillway with water flowing over it for a few seconds at the very beginning. Is this the emergency spillway? I’m guessing it is. From other videos this spillway looks to be about 30 feet tall, and has lots of water flowing over, causing erosion.
The main spillway(?) is the long narrow chute and is between the wide spillway and the dam. Yeah - 30’ of water going downstream will be a disaster. And it sounds like only a matter of time.
I think they’ve opened up the main spillway to 100K CFS to try and lower the level. Looks like a lot more than earlier today.
I know. I’m a life-long native at Mansfield Dam, holding back Lake Travis, and dam failures are particularly terrifying to me. I am panicked for these people, and listening intently for good news. Thanks for all you do in these situations.
The entire north state is damp with no place for the water to go except down hill and eventually to the ocean.
Our rivers and streams are at near flood level and can’t take much more water without flooding.

Not sure of the agriculture of the area, but those folks that are bumper to bumper have to go over a bridge with water flowing from the river.
They must be damn afraid.
Prayers sent their way.
