In a fraught moment of political protest across the country, the live mic at televised award shows has become a potent weapon.
As such, Grammy Awards producer Ken Ehrlich has a message for those who will take the stage on Sundays ceremony: Bring it on.
Ehrlich has no reservations about political messages or anti-President Trump statements flying during CBS three and a half hour Grammycast. Artists expressing passionate opinions about real-life issues are the stuff of memorable moments, he said.
One of the tenets of our show is artistic freedom, and over the years weve shown we do believe in it, Ehrlich told Variety. How many more times do we need to hear Id like to thank my publicist, my agent, my wife and kids. The great acceptance speeches are ones that have a point of view and are more personal.
The only guidelines on speech that Ehrlich has to keep an eye (and ear) on is profanity, given the potential for CBS to be hit with FCC fines if F-bombs fly before 10 p.m. But almost everything else is fair game.

Funny thing is that the youngsters who agree with this political operator already believe they shouldn’t have to pay for music. Primarily, the people left who still think it’s reasonable to pay for why you want to own, is conservatives. Yet encouraging our favorite musicians to pummel our political opinions will probably push many into the “I deserve free music” camp.
I think what is happening that the VALUE SYSTEM of Hollywood, Screen writers as well as ACTORS is on public trial. It;s not working out very well for them, they are realizing that the values they lived by and promoted are not the values of MOST people that live in America. Meryl Streep being their goddess.
Advertisers need their heads examined.
Maybe one of them will have a mental break down during the rant or a riot could break out.
The liberal buyers will buy anything sold through the liberal advertisement establishment. The news is tailored to sell advertisements to a targeted viewing audience.
The advertisements are much more sophisticated than the programming. The ads are at a 9th grade level while the programming are at a 5th grade level. It is all manipulation of a certain segment of the audience to buy things they do not really need.
Is Ms. Streep unaware that the only brownshirts (or, these days, blackshirts) that exist are leftist paramilitary thugs? Did she not see what happened at Berkeley? Is she completely ignorant of the paramilitary army that Soros has been busing around to cause unrest, destroy property, and physically attack non-leftists?
The Oscar producer has said the same thing for the Academy Awards show.
Not blanketing the entire dumpster fire on SeeBS tonight but FOX has new episodes of Son Of Zorn, Family Guy, and Bob’s Burgers running against that waste of time.
The Left can moan, groan, pontificate and protest endlessly. However if Trump turns around the economy and the people sense a real prosperity, the Left will lose badly.
The Left was the same during Reagan’s first term, and look what happened.
Meryl Streep is a decent actress (The Deer Hunter comes to mind) but a first class bonehead otherwise. I recall how she destroyed many of the apple farmers over the phony “Alar” scare in the 1980s(at least she did meet with them thereafter). But it is this constant hyperbolization of every issue that will lead her and her ilk to be just ignored as vacuous, complaining idiots who can’t accept the results of an election; the thought that it might be “novel” for the producer of the Grammy Awards to allow recipients to wax political and make fools of themselves in the process is inane; they’ve done it for years starting with Fonda at the Academy Awards in the seventies. In other words, what a novel idea (NOT).
One more awards show I haven’t watched in over 20 years. I want to be entertained not have politics shoved down my throat
So they only want ignorant leftists to watch?
Works for me.
As much as I would love to say to just ignore these people...well, we’ve been doing that for decades and what has it gotten us?
As much as I would say to shut them down for incitement, etc. the backlash would be swift as they are considered artists and have ‘free speech.’
I do believe therein rests the danger. Any action to shut down this level of incitement and propaganda will result in even more accusations of populism, nazi, fascist calls. Add onto it the lovely court systems and we’re beat by our own inadequacies to defend ourselves from these progressives. In many ways this looks more like a tactic and trick to get us to react in a way to shut them down for sedition.
Just the other day somebody posted a list of one of these ‘resist’ type groups. 99% of the people listed were some sort of artist, actor, activist, journalist...not one economist, scientist, engineer, real world person on the list!
I am exhausted by every time we turn around, everything is political hogwash! You can’t shop, you can’t wear certain clothes, you can’t speak a certain way, you can’t operate a Christian-style business culture, you can’t even watch a cartoon without some sort of progressive indoctrination message, you can’t seek out entertainment for entertainment’s sake, you can’t go hike, camp, or have a campfire, you can’t drive a care without being sneared at or in some cities have them bust out your car windows, heaven forbid you own a gun, eat meat, or hunt!!!
And they want to call us fascists, browshirts, immoral?
I want them to stop the indoctrination, I just don’t see how we can do it.
When your enemy is hanging themselves, best to just stay out of the way.
The silent majority is getting tired of Hollywood’s act.
“Who cares what the entertainment industry thinks about politics?”
I read that Hollywood was pretty much not involved in politics until the Clintons started having stars visit the White House. He solicited their opinions, oh, and their money and support. He got all three in huge quantities. Thus Hollywood suddenly realized how important their opinions where and how much the president wanted them and they haven’t shut up since. They are too unintelligent to realize they are simply being milked. The advent of social media has given them a wider voice and they now see sharing their views as vital to their marketing strategy. (I think that like Target, 84 Lumber and Starbucks they have gone too far and are now damaging themselves.)
I have a Leftist friend who proclaimed Streep ‘brave’ for her speech at the Saggys.......and this woman’s husband is a Vietnam Vet. Some Leftists, even in their 60’s, have nothing but skulls full of mush.
Hey! I have a winning strategy! ALIENATE HALF YOUR AUDIENCE!
Amazing - we are watching the left descend into the unspeakable and they are embracing it like a long lost lover.
Commissar (sometimes Kommissar) is an English transliteration of the Russian комиссáр, which means commissary. In English, the transliteration "commissar" is used to refer specifically to Communist political officers, while administrative officers are translated to "commissary".
