I Know Everything
February 11, 2017
You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.
Psalm 139:3
Our son and daughter-in-law had an emergency. Our grandson Cameron was suffering from pneumonia and bronchitis and needed to go to the hospital. They asked if we could pick up their five-year-old son, Nathan, from school and take him home. Marlene and I were glad to do so.
When Nathan got in the car, Marlene asked, Are you surprised that we came to get you today? He responded, No! When we asked why not, he replied, Because I know everything!
A five-year-old can claim to know everything, but those of us who are a bit older know better. We often have more questions than answers. We wonder about the whys, whens, and hows of lifeoften forgetting that though we do not know everything, we know the God who does.
Psalm 139:1 and 3 speak of our all-knowing Gods all-encompassing, intimate understanding of us. David says, You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. . . . You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. How comforting to know God loves us perfectly, is fully aware of what we will face today, and He knows how best to help us in every circumstance of life.
Our knowledge will always be limited, but knowing God is what matters most. We can trust Him.
Thank You, Lord, that You know everything about me and what I need.

Knowing God is what matters most.
God knows who we are (Ps. 139:16), who we are becoming (vv. 712), and how we got where we are (vv. 1318). Consider praying Psalm 139:1 as both a confession and an invitation. Take comfort in the fact that God knows and loves you, and invite Him to take you to places of greater intimacy with Him.

Not yet. We had day after day of snow, freezing rain and sleet. Thus we had layer upon layer of ice and snow -- and today it started to melt. I was out of food, so I had to go out and shop.
Thanks to the layers of snow, slush and ice, it took me six tries to get my car out of its parking spot and onto the street. Once I got that taken care of, the rest was easy.
By Monday it should all be gone.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
COLE PORTER
YOULL NEVER GET RICHCole now entered a fallow period in his output. His 1940 Broadway show, Panama Hattie, ran for years but produced no memorable tunes. His 1941 show, Lets Face It, ran for years but saw theater patrons leaving without humming a single bar of music. Cole actually had more luck in Hollywood during these years than he did on Broadway.
Having fulfilled his contract at MGM, Cole signed for two musicals at Columbia. Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth starred in this first musical, and to the end of her days Rita said that this was the work of which she was most proud.
FRED ASTAIRE: SO NEAR AND YET SO FARThis is Cole is his Latin rhumba style. Freds strict rehearsal habits had caused Ginger Rogers feet to bleed at RKO. Rita kept up with Fred, and her sensuous moves made her a wonderful partner. This clip is from the 1941 film. As you can see, weve lost a lot in 76 years.

And remember...everything Fred did, Ginger did.
Backwards.
Wearing High Heels.
Hey Publius, I tightened up the Longfellow parody. Do you think it would be appropriate here?

Good evening, Mayor, and thank you for today’s sustenance for body and soul.
Well, we made it to the weekend. “They” told us yesterday that we would be under a blizzard warning....they were wrong. Now they tell us again, but no signs. It is just working its way down to below zero.
Hope you get to school some dims...they seem to have lost their collective minds.

I guess she was gorgeous all the time, but she was so graceful and alluring in that clip!

Why not? Don't hide your light under a lampshade.
BTW, there is a book showing that Dvorak's "New World" Symphony is based on Song of Hiawatha. It comes with a CD of the author reciting bits of Longfellow's poem over Dvorak's music.

OK...here goes! :-)
The Song of Liawatha
(With Apologies to Longfellow!)
By The shores of the Potomac
By the shining big-butt Congress
Stood the Prius of Liawatha
Also known as Faux-ca-hontas.
By the shores of River Charlie,
Entered Hallowed Halls of Harvard,
Checked the box that said Native
Steal job from some other libtard.
See an opportunity awaiting
Must get herself a new appointment
Scott Browns star is quickly fading,
Cuz hes been a disappointment.
Time to raise the casks and flagons,
Time to spike the fire-water
Time to Circle Liberal wagons,
Time to elect Nikomis Daughter!
Liawatha won the day then,
But she really Dindu Nuffin.
Whats a few votes from Granery Hill?
Whats wrong with some ballot stuffin?
Liawatha lies like bearskin,
Covering up the Tee Pee Floor,
Fauxcahontas speaks with tongue of serpent,
But we all knew that months before.
Liawatha reads a letter,
From the widow of a King,
But the White Man do her better.
Tells her she cant say a thing.
Fauxcahontas speaks with the tongue,
Forked and dipped in a poison cup.
But we knew that we have won,
When they told Liawatha to SHUT UP.
