~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi

keesler1

Keesler Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located in Biloxi, a city in Harrison County, Mississippi, United States. The base is named in honor of aviator 2d Lt Samuel Reeves Keesler, Jr., a Mississippi native killed in France during the First World War. The base is home of Headquarters, Second Air Force (2 AF) and the 81st Training Wing (81 TW) of the Air Education and Training Command (AETC).

The Second Air Force mission is to provide the best-trainined, combat-ready forces. To carry out this mission, Second Air Force manages all operational aspects of nearly 2,700 active training courses taught to approximately 150,000 students annually in technical training, basic military training, medical and distance learning courses. Training operations across Second Air Force range from intelligence to computer operations to space and missile operations and maintenance.

Keesler AFB is also the home of the 85th Engineering Installation Squadron (EIS), of the 688th Cyberspace Wing (CW), which is the Air Force's only active duty EIS. The almost 200 AFSPC Airmen and Civilians of the 85th EIS can design, engineer, and install the full range of C&I equipment and components typically found at a fixed site and other specialty systems unique to expeditionary forces.

They are also the only organization in the DoD to provide specialized engineering services such as electromagnetic hazard and interference investigations and High Altitude Electromagnetic Pulse (HEMP) protection. During contingencies, the 85th EIS can deliver their unique skills to the warfighter within 72 hours.

The 403rd Wing is the largest flying organization at Keesler, and the only Air Force Reserve Command wing in Mississippi. With a military manning authorization of more than 1,400 reservists, including 250 full-time air reserve technicians, the wing performs dual missions: tactical airlift support during peace- and war-time contingencies, and aerial weather reconnaissance supporting the Department of Commerce.

Well, after shoveling snow in order to get to my car, I ran a few errands and enjoyed the rest of the day being lazy.

Howz your Monday?

Great! Glad to hear it.

We had a low-key weekend here. After last week being hectic, low-key was quite welcome. LOL

AGAIN?? I thought you didn’t get much accumulation. More snow overnight?
At least you had some lazy time today. Much deserved after all the shoveling the past few days. :-)

Nothing exciting here today. Just ran Piper to the vet for a couple of shots. Typical Monday. LOL

Glad to hear you’re doing well. Guess you haven’t gotten outside very much lately with it being so cold. It doesn’t seem to want to break in your neck o’ the woods. BRRRR

The kittens are getting along here quite nicely. Their poor lil momma isn’t nearly as relaxed though. She stays on alert in case any of the others makes a move she doesn’t like. She’ll eventually figure out they don’t want to hurt her babies.

During my Air Force days I was stationed there TWICE. First as a student in Tech School, then as a regular duty station to help maintain the aircraft.

We had pea soup fog this morning, but when it lifted the sun was shining and it was beautiful out.

Howdy, everyone! Great thread, galz!

Keesler is where our son got his flight training until he washed out because of a herniated disc. He was so disappointed, but went on to get student loans and learn to fly helicopters on his own time. He was determined.

Then a seizure about 4 years ago grounded him for good plus he had to retire earlier than planned from the AF.
He loved flying.

Good evening, radu...more fog and probably for the whole week. Driving was a little dicey this morning.

You and the critters enjoy the day? Anybody get to go outside?

Good point. Don’t need you slipping and landing on your hiney. Not fun for you and the neighbors will laugh. LOL

The newbies are doing fine. At the moment, they’re asleep and the rest of the “herd” are calm. Don’t know how long it’ll last but we’re enjoying it while it does! Amazing how much racket such small creatures can make when they run through the house.

Went over my sister’s to celebrate the Pats and got gloriously inebriated.

But it’s OK because it’s walking distance.

I am a very responsible and correct person.
