Politics: President Trump's selection for the Supreme Court won't get a fair hearing from the Democrats. No, that's not an opinion. The Democrats themselves say so. The GOP better get ready this is what they'll face for the next four years.
As of late Tuesday, no one knew who would be Trump's pick for the high court. But, heck, it really didn't matter.
Oregon Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley made clear it doesn't matter who it is: If it's not President Obama's earlier pick, Judge Merrick Garland, he'll filibuster.
"This is a stolen seat," said Merkley, who has the distinction of being wrong both on his reading of the law and on the Congress' own rules. "This is the first time a Senate majority has stolen a seat. We will use every lever in our power to stop this."
And he made clear he's not alone in some kind of quixotic quest. "A very large number of my colleagues will be opposed," he said.
Then there's the case of the nominations of Dr. Tim Price as Health and Human Services secretary and Steve Mnuchin as the next Treasury secretary. They were scheduled to be approved Tuesday by the Senate Finance Committee and sent to the floor or a vote so that President Trump could get his government up and running.
But the Democrats didn't show. Literally.

Democrats have always ranted and raved and Republicans have always folded like cheap suits.
This time is different and Democrats don’t have a Plan B. All they know is to throw tantrums, counting on the DBM to carry their water.
Trump is calling them out on it on a daily basis and he won’t be intimidated or cowed into submission.
The X factor is the rest of the GOP, who have never had the spine to stay strong. Trump not only has to battle the immature Democrats and the DBM. He has to keep his own party from bolting when the flack starts raining down.
I wonder where they got the idea from? Republicans boycott vote on EPA chief nominee
They went AWOL in Wisconsin to avoid presenting a quorum for certain votes a couple of years ago. Like they left the state.
The problem with Kent State was that instead of shooting the lead instigators, they shot over the crowd, striking spectators in the distance. Take out the lead dogs and the pack will scatter.
I got to listen to my WW2 veteran Dad and my college-student brother argue about Kent state at the dinner table for a few weeks after the event.
In this case all they need to do is stay in their office.
“Have one Republican re-register as a Democrat.”
You read my post yesterday.
Washington is broken because of the filibuster. It is a device to give 100 little hitlers power. All this crap about it being used to slow things down is BS.
They wonder why presidents use executive power. Because of the 100 little hitlers.
New ?
Democrats have far fewer ways to obstruct now, thanks to rules THEY passed to prevent Republicans from obstructing them. The irony is not lost on most that pay attention.
Not even 24 hours and the Democrats are attacking Niel Gorsuch’s mother.

I realize the president Trump is no youngster, but I believe that he will travel to these red states with blue senators and campaign for Republicans. Even the threat to do so will scare Democrats in trouble in the eight states affected.
I think the president will get his 60 votes with very little effort.
IIRC the pack scattered anyway.
