Major actor. RIP.
RIP also to Barbara Hale, who played Perry Mason’s secretary.

John Hurt could arch one eyebrow, tilt his head and win an award.
He was just that good.

He was the best thing about “Midnight Express.” Just an okay movie, but Hurt did a great job.

In I, Claudius the definitive Caligula! That was my first real exposure to him. I was awed by the performance.
As an aside, celebs are really dropping like flies these days!

He was the voice of Aragorn in Ralph Bakshi’s “The Lord of the Rings.” Appeared in “V for Vendetta”, too.

Pancreatic cancer is rough. My cat got it and died within a month. Steve Job had it for four years and threw everything at it: Stanford medicine miracles, vitamins, nutrition, Eastern teas, and meditation. Job died with the regret that he did not do everything possible to cure pancreatic cancer.
John Hurt was excellent in Midnight Express, 1978.

He also did a fine turn in an otherwise depressing movie “The Proposition”.

Damn good movie. I thought it should have beat out The Deer Hunter for best picture that year. He played Max.

Max: The best thing to do is to get your ass out of here. Best way that you can.
Billy Hayes: Yeah, but how?
Max: Catch the midnight express.
Billy Hayes: But what's that?
Max: [laughs] Well it's not a train. It's a prison word for... escape. But it doesn't stop around here.

He was great in Alien, and a real treat to watch when he reprised the role in SpaceBalls!
And as was said in an earlier post, he was terrific as “The War Doctor” in the 50th anniversary special of Dr. Who.
