Civil rights groups are concerned that the police will violate their rights during the Inauguration protests so they intend to record their behavior. Meanwhile, the ACLU is demanding that the police turn off their body worn cameras during the events.
D.C. Police say their policy is to only record when there is a police activity and they do not consider monitoring protests an activity.

All politicians and government officials should have to wear body cams - all the time.

Are the ACLU also going to pass a law making it a criminal offense for citizens to record the event too?
Agreed. It demands repeating. Especially considering that protests are public events held in public places and in such places nobody has a right to privacy. They can be filmed by the police and anyone else that happens to be nearby.
Don't like that? Then stay home.
Another option is possible, since the D.C.police are a 'reactionary force' is or them to turn off all issued body cams
and activate helmet mounted "Go Pro" cameras with Zoom capacity
Given the "Days of Rage" anarchist incident in 1968 at the DNC, I am sure that "GO Pro" would enjoy the additional advertising for providing them to police !

ACLU doesn't want it documented how many federal government workers who were supposed to be at work were really protesting while on the clock.
I notice to did not say that they would not have them.
I am okay with this if nothing illegal is going on. But as soon as someone throws something or engages in other illegal activity then the recordings starts.
As long as the protest s limited to holding signs, slogans, etc. and keeping their distance I have no problem with the camera off. The second one idiot protester tries to confront the PD to get a reaction, throws something, cameras get turned on and stay on for the duration.
