D.C. Police say their policy is to only record when there is a police activity and they do not consider monitoring protests an activity.

I notice to did not say that they would not have them.

I am okay with this if nothing illegal is going on. But as soon as someone throws something or engages in other illegal activity then the recordings starts.

As long as the protest s limited to holding signs, slogans, etc. and keeping their distance I have no problem with the camera off. The second one idiot protester tries to confront the PD to get a reaction, throws something, cameras get turned on and stay on for the duration.
