Nine Republicans balk at risky repeal-and-replace strategy
The House passed a 2017 budget Friday that lays the groundwork for dismantling Obamacare, brushing aside intra-GOP anxiety and defiant Democrats to launch the repeal-and-replace strategy staked out by President-elect Donald Trump.
Nine Republicans balked at the politically thorny plan the budget doesnt balance, and the party hasnt coalesced around a health bill of its own. But their defections werent nearly enough to tilt the 227-198 vote, which imposes a Jan. 27 deadline for crafting legislation that guts the Affordable Care Act.
The Unaffordable Care Act will soon be history! Mr. Trump posted on Twitter before the vote.
The Senate approved the plan early Thursday on a 51-48 vote that brought in support from all but one Republican in the chamber, clearing the way for an eventual repeal vote that cannot be filibustered by Democrats.

If McClintock voted no you can bet there’s a dam good reason.
Folks what you witnessed today in the House of Representatvies, is the continuing imposion of th Democrat Party!!! Without a major fanfare...elections have consequences, and the Democrat Party had two master deadbeats, working to destroy them for the last eight years....Barack Hussein Obama & Hillary Clinton!!! All their and their adoring media, babble and orating means nothing...Trump & his GOP are the boss!!! I love it!!! The Democrats simply have no votes!!! Hints: Dems in the House & Senate...switch parties now or disappear into obscurity!!! End of story!!!
And...after the 2018 Mid-Terms, life will be even sweeter for POTUS Trump and his Pubbies!!! Go Donald J. Trump!!! LMAO!!!
The Bill Text details explain that further recommendations to the Committee on Budget shall be submitted by the ObamaCare-involved committees no later than Jan 27th and that this Bill is basically now sitting waiting for those recommendations to be processed. Thus by the time they get the language in place & it passes the Budget committee then it can go to the President’s desk for signature.
If these GOP chairmen were to hurry now and submit it and pass it this coming week then Obama could decide on the matter before he leaves office. However if they wait a few more days until Obama is gone then they can let Trump decide the matter. I suggest waiting a few days.
“In the House of Representatives, not later than January 27, 2017, the committees named in subsections (a) and (b) shall submit their recommendations to the Committee on the Budget of the House of Representatives to carry out this section.”
Bump!
Thanks to Congress for taking action right away.
There is no good reason for McClintock to vote with the Democrats to continue Obamacare.
No, the GOP wants it ended so it will be quick.
They want to replace it with their own plan, which could be as bad or worse. And since they want to repeal and replace rather than just repeal either they repeal now, but delay the effective date until they have their own plan in place, or delay the repeal until they have their plan. Either way Obamacare will be us for a while.
Day one for President Trump is 21 January. 20 January is for ceremonies and getting transition processes signed and sealed.
I hope the finalized law and plan will be ready for signing on his desk by 0800. No executive orders needed.
It’s not a binary solution.
The real play here is to let all the bad stuff happen with Obamacare scheduled to happen this year and keep that Albatross around the Democrats neck.
You can make up whatever equivalency you want.
Why not? They wrote the bill. Voters need to be reminded of the poor legislating ability of their candidates.
The GOP is just going to bail them out and get blamed for it all.
Let it become so intolerable that even the Progressives beg for it’s repeal and replacement.
