Early on Thursday morning, in a 51-48 vote, the Senate took the first concrete step toward dismantling Obamacare, when it voted to instruct key committees to draft legislation repealing Barack Obama's signature health insurance program. Republicans needed a simple majority to clear the repeal rules, instructing committees to begin drafting repeal legislation, through the upper chamber, with the vote falling largely along party lines.
Rand Paul was the lone Republican to vote against the budget resolution because it didnt balance. Paul said in a statement after the vote that while he supports nixing ObamaCare "putting nearly $10 trillion more in debt on the American peoples backs through a budget that never balances is not the way to get there."
Meanwhile, no Democrat supported the repeal rules. Instead, Democrats rose one by one from their seats on the Senate floor in protest to state why they were voting against the resolution. In dramatic fashion, Bernie Sanders warned that if the GOP resolution moved forward Americans would die.
"Up to 30 million Americans will lose their health care with many thousands dying as a result," he said. "Because when you have no health insurance and you can't go to a doctor or a hospital, you die."
Sanders also mocked the Republican effort saying the GOP have never united around an alternative to Obamacare. "They want to kill ACA but they have no idea how they are going to bring forth a substitute proposal," declared Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont.
Dianne Feinstein who had surgery to install a pacemaker, missed the hours-long "vote-a-rama" session that began Wednesday evening. Lawmakers were able to use the hours-long voting block to force a vote on any amendment to the budget resolution. Some 180 amendments were filed.

They're killing the Royal Idiot's signature achievement ... and now you Freepers are all going to die!
An army of lambs led by a lion is preferable to an army of lions led by a lamb.
Senate, meet your lion.
“Up to 30 million Americans will lose their health care with many thousands dying as a result,” he said.”
Can’t wait to see the stats on “thousands” of people dying.
DO NOT TRUST RAND PAUL!
Another win!
Obama said it couldn’t be undone....It shouldn’t have happened in the first place. Nothing more than robbing Peter to pay Paul....and the usual folks are paying.
You know, how many people get hired for part time or minimum wage because the business cannot afford to insure them?
He voted against a Budget Resolution that never balances the budget.
He is against Obamacare.
Rand Paul died on the wrong hill.
A friend of mine whose daughter is a nurse at a smallish hospital said they had very few patients because the Doctors weren’t admitting. Their patients were begging not to be hospitalized because they couldn’t afford the deductibles so they were dealing with them the best they could.
We have a substitute for Obamacare - it’s called freedom. We have the economic freedom to buy what we want or to choose not to. The poor have medicaid, and the rest of us have the right to choose expensive insurance, bare-bones insurance, catastrophic coverage that only kicks in for major medical expenses, or something else. If government will get out of the way (the republican repeal of Obamacare), people will make their own decisions.
The Three Thorns: Rand Paul, John McPain and Baby Lindsey.
Don’t forget Marco Rubio, a/k/a the bath house queen.
People are dying now. These are people who can't afford their copays. They are people who are treated by regulations in a handbook that gives insurance-company driven protocols. They are people who as a result of Big Medicine plying them with pain killers became drug addicts.
What's the answer? How about a "first aid" option for care for people who don't have the requisite insurance and can't afford much more than the basics? Putting responsibility back to the people to choose how they're cared for and what it's worth to them is what will improve our health and control costs. It's called personal responsibility. It Made America Great, once upon a time.
It doesn't have to take months. Last year the Republicans passed and sent to Obama a bill that ended the individual mandate and eliminated funds for the consumer subsidies and Medicaid expansion. Do that again - same bill, no need for committee hearings - and Obamacare is basically dead because it doesn't have any way to pay for it. That should not take months. Do not delay the date it goes into effect; the bill passed last year had no delay. And if they want to use the same bill they used last year, that one included a defunding of Planned Parenthood so we would have icing on the cake. The House and Senate could do that on January 20th. And they could repeal the bits and pieces left of Obamacare at their leisure.
>> We have the economic freedom to buy what we want or to choose not to.
Preexiting people don’t have freedom.
You know damned well that Feinswine didn’t have Obamacare!
Guess Bernie is too senile to remember that we had Medicaid long before Obamacare and those poor masses were getting FREE care with no deductible or copay.
Then the federal government, or preferably the state governments should write a narrowly-tailored law on preexisting conditions, not a broad one that nationalizes a large fraction of our economy. Note: a close family member has a serious and expensive preexisting condition, so I completely understand that concern.
