South Dakota narrowly overtakes Oregon, which held the top spot for the previous three years, as the nation's "Top Moving Destination." This is the first time South Dakota has held the no. 1 spot. Vermont inched out Oregon for the no 2. position, with Oregon rounding out the top three. Those are the results of the United Van Lines' 40th Annual National Movers Study, which tracks customers' state-to-state migration patterns over the past year. Retirees are continuing to move to the Mountain and Pacific West.
Salem has elected all democrats to the legislature and congress. It’s a blue county in a blue state.
With AI robots and delivery drones just a few years away, I figure I’ll always be able to manage at home.
I hear Florida’s real estate taxes are through the roof.
Is that to pay for schools? Does it vary county to county?
“always” being a relative term. Let us give thanks and be content with our lives.
I have no idea what this dental floss tycoon joke us about.
It’s a Zappa tune. “Movin’ to Montana soon, gonna be a dental floss tycoon.”
Frank Zappa lyrics.
If you would like more information about what's happening in Oregon, please FReepmail me.
Please send me your name by FReepmail if you want to be on this list.
Worse up here, Former Neighbor. Today “we” opened the Office for Immigrants in LA. You know, to HELP illegals get freebies, in case they haven’t figured it out on their own?
Thank you for pointing out all of Oregon’s defects.
We don’t want anymore Californians retiring here.
I live in a conservative county. 1 1/2 hour to the coast and 1 1/2 hour east to mountains and skiing in winter.
I want to keep things just the way they are. It’s horrible here... Stay away!!
There are now large areas of Florida that are dangerous to live in.
If you aren’t living within site of the beach itself, it’s just not worth it anymore.
The property taxes are a big issue here in NJ that practically force retirees to move out; we have “home rule”, by which local property taxes pay for your schools, cops, etc. - and as those unions are very powerful here we pay through the nose. The state freezes your property taxes when you reach 65, but they are still frozen at a very high rate - so you’d deplete your retirement savings very quickly if you stay.
I suspect many retiring Americans are going to balk at moving to any area where they are expected to pay for schools for primarily non-American students; in fact, many young Americans are already doing that (and therefore fleeing NJ as well).
We had 18"of snow on the back deck and 12" in the driveway. In the spring California transplants will be seeking realtors to obtain 4-Sale signs to end the process of living half the year by snowblower and shovel. The buyers will be Californians who will repeat the process year after year after year.
Too many sonzabeeches near sunny beaches. . .
Taxes cause by the west & east coast liberals who can’t stand the mess they created so they move inland and will end up f’n up every place they move to.. it’s the liberal cancer syndrome.
For the last 4 years we’ve vacationed in the Black Hills with a goal of moving there in a couple years. The real estate market does not have a lot to offer. A medium grade home outside the city goes for $300 - $400,000 which will have about 5 acres.
And yes, it’s real white there, and I am not talking about snow.
Yup, loads of Californians moved here only to become depressed by the dark grayness and rain most of the time. LOL!
Vermont is the whitest state in the Union. I’m sure Montana is a close second.
