"For the building to be safe and legal for them to live in, the law requires the landlord to have a residential certificate of occupancy, she said, adding that the landlord has not made any move to get the document. The lawyer insisted the building is unsafe, but defended her clients choice to stay for years rent-free with a young family. Theyre entitled to be there, she said."
Entitled to live in unsafe conditions?

This would not fly in a MO court. You can't claim your rental is unlivable and continue to live there.

Look at how bold they are in their criminal lifestyle.
Not a care in the world who finds out that they are cheating a Landlord out of the rent. I predict this publicity is going to help the Landlord. Imagine the lessons their two kids are learning by this decision. $410.K!!

Put them in Sing Sing rent free for the next 20 years.

You have to be suicidal to own real estate in NYC, I don’t know how Trump does it. The laws there are so biased against landlords it’s insane. I’ve heard of cases where it took landlords 10 YEARS to evict a tenant who didn’t pay rent, and that’s just a regular apartment building. From what I understand if the tenant pays ANYTHING the judge lets them stay. That’s freakin’ nuts. Meanwhile the landlord has to pay taxes up the wazoo, oil, maintenance and then people wonder why rent is so high.

That is a big ass Tax problem .

Wait till they leave. Pop a ceiling tile near entryway, punch a hole in the wall and drop in a few dead rats.
Wait a couple days for it to start smelling. Call health dept. They will condemn building. Wont allow anyone back in for at least a month.

not paying rent on their Chelsea loft for six years. Digital-content producers Zachary Bennett and Karen Nourse quit paying the $4,754.02 monthly rent on their West 26th Street place back in 2010, according to a lawsuit. They owe $410,000 in rent and electric charges, their landlord claims.
And I claim their landlord is a d*mn liberal fool who needs to go to school, not the NYC cr@p he apparently attended.
He had 5-1/2 years to notice losing nearly 1 half-million dollars?

I’m glad I’m in Ohio. Of course it’s just an apartment complex but I served an eviction notice on someone Thursday evening and our attorney will file papers Tuesday before noon.

Hey...the landlord is "entitled" to write off the the outstanding balance and send these deadbeats a 1099 for $410,000 for the forgiven debt.
Let them argue their case with the IRS. We'll see what kind of stuff they're made of then, for sure.
