Equality is one of those words that has gained far too much currency in the modern West. The use of it constitutes an exercise in stultiloquence, making it the perfect sort of term for use by social justice warriors (SJWs) and others on the Left.
Equality has been a powerfully destructive force on our society. Because of it, laws are passed which force businesses to hire suboptimal employees who end up harming not only the productivity of the enterprise, but also the social and trust structures within it as well. Because of the demands of equality, relative power within a company moves away from the productive members of the company towards the non-productive members found in ever-enlarging HR organisations within the corporate structure. Equality is forcing Americans to accept men intruding themselves into womens bathrooms and forcing them to make cakes and arrange flowers for the grossly unnatural fantasies of gay marriage. Equality is opening forcing the military, police forces, and fire brigades to lower their standards so that female applicants can pass the physical requirements.
In each and every case, we see that equality is really just a cover for SJW-mandated social redistribution. Just as socialists seek wealth redistribution in the economic realm, so SJWs seek social redistribution the taking of social results from one or several groups to be given to others.

I think that the Human Resources department is responsible for that.
I was in a situation recently where we had several applicants for a position, and we *had* to extend a job offer to one of the applicants because she was a disabled vet. We had no choice about it. In the situation of a vet, especially a disabled vet, as long as the person meets the minimal requirements of the position, he or she *must* be hired--even if more qualified persons applied for it. (In our case, the applicant ended up declining the job offer.)
No, it is an attempt to redistribute power by taking it away from those who have earned it and giving it to those who don’t deserve it.
It is the dialectical wedge wielded by marxists everywhere.
Well said. No one knows the suffering of every other living thing, the agony and the ecstasy of life.
The United States Constitution was written and ratified "to secure the Blessings of Liberty to Ourselves and to Our Posterity"
Once you grasp that "Liberty" and "Equality" are antonyms, a lot of things become more clear.
The fact is there is black privilege and government enforced white discrimination, precisely the opposite of the black lies matter meme.
Putting that opinion into practice creates, over time, social chaos.
When opportunity is radically equalized, and outcomes are radically different, the bottom one third simply does not accept that their outcomes were not an evil done to them by the majority.
Anyone who went to an American public high school in the past 50 years understands this intuitively.
The false ideal of "equal opportunity", like all other libertarian concepts, presumes a population of overwhelmingly rational actors capable of foresight and able to grasp cause and effect.
That's not what we have, though.
HR is the one discriminating. They determined me ineligible because I chose “External” candidate saying only internal candidates could apply, even though the announcement said Vets apply as External.
After over 45 days over 5 emails and phone calls finally got them to accept the application, they found me qualified, sent my name to the selecting official, then cancelled the job without hiring me while at the same time opening up the exact same job in a new announcement.
No one knows the suffering of every other living thing, the agony and the ecstasy of life...
And how dare they try!!
Beautifully put, by the way.
In all fairness, he under-defines “equality of opportunity”.
A proper definition takes three things into account.
The first thing is a term from economics: “opportunity cost”. It basically means that you have enough money for a choice among several choices. To make a choice means that you cannot make the other choices. Opportunity costs happen frequently in life, and this is where individuality comes to the fore.
Your judgment takes into account who you are, and what you think of your own abilities, not just your desires, but your assessment that your choice is *reasonable*, from your point of view.
The second factor in “equality of opportunity” is this, your self definition. If you see yourself clearly, you can not just imagine your capabilities, but also your limitations. The opportunity is still there, but you do not consider it as a choice, because you do not imagine yourself achieving much with this choice.
The third factor is the downside to all this. “Equality before the law”, and the interference of others in choices you want to make. Equality before the law is the rule book to choice. Optimally it equalizes people with the social contract: your opportunities are limited to legal choices.
The interference of others in your choices is the opposite of equal opportunity. It implies coercion. If you choose to be an artist, but your parents demand you become a doctor, you are denied your just equality of opportunity if you are obedient to them.
Likewise, if a supporter of President Trump walks into restaurant while wearing a “Make America Great” hat, and they refuse to serve him, they are denying his equality of opportunity.
Permission to steal that?
Try to avoid people like that.
When our kids were young we would occasionaly hear, “That’s not fair.” when one would get something the other did not. I would respond, “It may not be equal, but it is fair.” In time, they got it.
I am one of those who believes that IN GENERAL life is fair. Not always but in general it is. It is not equal but it is fair.
Also told my kids, if you want to be rich, do what rich people do. If you want to be poor, do what poor people do.
Not that complicated.
This article is horribly racist and sexist.
Careful! TRUTH is the new HATE SPEECH!
I was joking, just to clarify.
I gathered that...
OK, just wanted to make sure so you didn’t think I was an SJW.
Please do. I saw this years ago...
