Debbie Reynolds Dead at 84
TMZ ^ | 12/28/2016 | TMZ

Debbie Reynolds -- who rose to stardom in "Singin' in the Rain" and quickly became a staple among Hollywood royalty -- died Wednesday as a result of a stroke, TMZ has learned ... just one day after her daughter Carrie Fisher passed away ... this according to her son Todd. Debbie was rushed to a hospital shortly after 1 PM when someone at the Beverly Hills home of her son, Todd, called 911 to report a possible stroke. We're told Debbie and Todd were making funeral plans for Carrie, who died Tuesday of cardiac arrest.

Debbie famously divorced Eddie Fisher in 1959 after his affair with Elizabeth Taylor. Debbie married 2 more times in 1960 and 1984. She played iconic roles in "Tammy and the Bachelor" and "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" ... for which she earned an Oscar nomination. Carrie's relationship with Debbie was the focus of Carrie's semi-autobiographical book, "Postcards from the Edge," which was later adapted for the big screen, starring Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine. Debbie's survived by her son Todd, who tells us, "She's with Carrie."

My childhood best friend was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and fought it for two years. She died and her mother was so heartbroken and distraught that she collapsed and died a week later at her other daughter’s home despite being perfectly healthy up until then.

This is just heartbreaking.

I’ve heard of very elderly couples dying a day apart, but with all the widows and widowers who go on after their spouses’ death, maybe it’ just the odds.

A positive attitude is important when fighting illness. Broken hearts can’t fight anything off.

Now i’m depressed.

Everybody responds differently.

My brother lost his beloved daughter when she was 34 due to an asthma attack. In this day and age!

He and his wife adopted her two sons who are having some behavioral issues (who wouldn’t?), and life has not been the same since.

My sister-in-law is a whole different person after this tragedy.

My brother did the right thing by adopting his grandsons, but it has been very difficult for all concerned.

Todd has said they were competitive with each other so I’m sure it worked both ways. I don’t think Carrie really came into her own as a person and talent until she started writing, which was completely separate from her mother’s interests.

So sorry for your loss. My grandparents left us three weeks apart also. One is never ready.

Wow! RIP, both of them.

This reminds me of my aunt & uncle. They were devoted to each other — my uncle died just two days before my aunt, who was dying from a stroke. Said my cousin, “At least they didn’t have to see each other’s funeral.”

I almost wonder if the same thing would have happened if Debbie went first. I don’t know how Carrie could have coped.

Can someone please list (alleged) celebrities that died this year?

I mean, I know about Prince (boy, was that huge, including on the radio), and the very recent ones...Carrie and her mom Debbie, and George Michael. Also David Bowie. Anyone else truly celebrity?

“The father fared much better and I wonder why? Does that make him cold or just different?”

Just different probably. I’ve seen couples go through the death of a child. Naturally, they’re all devastated, but you never know how they’re going to handle it long term.

My parents handled the death of a child, my sibling, better than my aunt and uncle did.

It very well could have.

I’ll always remember her as 20 year old Princes Leia. I was 9 when Star Wars came out. Saw it nine times.

"2016 was so bad, it even got Abe Vigoda."

Hasn't Abe Vigoda died about a half-dozen times now? He's one of those people you swear you heard had died before, only to hear that he actually did die later. Sometimes makes me wonder about relativity and alternate timelines.

Billie Dee Williams is another person who I absolutely swear I heard had died several years ago. I even remember news accounts mentioning his role as Lando in the Star Wars movies. I was so sure that I was shocked to find that he is still alive.

Of course, there's always the possibility that I'm just losing my mind. Eight years of Obama will do that to you (see what I did there?).
