Debbie Reynolds -- who rose to stardom in "Singin' in the Rain" and quickly became a staple among Hollywood royalty -- died Wednesday as a result of a stroke, TMZ has learned ... just one day after her daughter Carrie Fisher passed away ... this according to her son Todd. Debbie was rushed to a hospital shortly after 1 PM when someone at the Beverly Hills home of her son, Todd, called 911 to report a possible stroke. We're told Debbie and Todd were making funeral plans for Carrie, who died Tuesday of cardiac arrest.
Debbie famously divorced Eddie Fisher in 1959 after his affair with Elizabeth Taylor. Debbie married 2 more times in 1960 and 1984. She played iconic roles in "Tammy and the Bachelor" and "The Unsinkable Molly Brown" ... for which she earned an Oscar nomination. Carrie's relationship with Debbie was the focus of Carrie's semi-autobiographical book, "Postcards from the Edge," which was later adapted for the big screen, starring Meryl Streep and Shirley MacLaine. Debbie's survived by her son Todd, who tells us, "She's with Carrie."

You are a brave and tough fighter and I am SO GLAD you had a great time!
I WILL HEED YOUR ADVICE and send what you wrote to my wife, if you don’t mind. Nephews and nieces too with your permission.
Beautiful lady.
Aw, no. Just turned off FR for a few minutes, come back and now this.
One of the all time greats, a star with real talent.
She brought happiness to so many.
How hard this must be for her family.
True. Sorry you lost your dad at such a young age.
Very sad news. RIP dear mother.
Don’t be depressed! You’re one of my favorite FReepers!
There is a scripture in the Old Testament (Song of Solomon?) that says that love is as strong as the grave.
I can imagine that if I were 84 years old, had a full life and my daughter died yesterday....then I might just let go too and go be with her.
RIP ladies. I wasn’t as familiar with the daughter, but DR gave me many hours of entertainment. Bless them both.
Oh how awful. Life is so precious. We must always remember that and live our best lives if we are able.
I remember a young Debbie Reynolds... she was so pretty, cute, on fire and cool... Todd Fisher was named after Mike Todd, Elizabeth’s husband, who died in a private plane crash. Eddie Fisher spent a lot of time with Mike Todd and when he was killed, Eddie ‘took care of Elizabeth’, divorced Debbie and married Elizabeth. Elizabeth usually got what she wanted but the marriage didn’t last too long. Eddie Fisher took a lot of flak over all that.. as Debbie was the darling of the movies and how dare he do that to Debbie.. Elizabeth almost lost her audience over taking Debbie’s husband. Then Elizabeth met and married Richard Burton.
THANKS! :)
I just love that! Debbie Reynolds was just the best. I loved all her movies when I was a little kid.
The biggest loss for me was Leonard Cohen.
I would never call him a “celebrity,” which IMO, means a person famous for being famous or outrageous, without necessarily any talent..
Cohen was a poet, songwriter, intellect in the stratosphere of talent.
Very sad. I really enjoyed Debbie Reynolds. It is odd her death is more shocking than her daughter’s.
Gene Wilder!!!
Don’t be sorry. That was 34 years ago.
Kind of like a memory more than a real person.
EVERYBODY has their crosses.
At least WE have FR!! :)
Thank you for the history.
