Here’s a tinfoil hat theory: Merkel is in hot water. The House of Saud knows it, wants Merkel right where she is, and this is just a nice little bit of theatre to make Germany look like it’s still got some nads. Germany looks tough, and the Saudis pretend to be PO’ed. Just a theory.
Way more than a theory. I think you are right. This German politician is a flaming pinko who has helped destroy their military. The is election season political theater and no more.
Its not about her showing respect for the Saudis. She is German Defense Minister, for crying out loud. If the Saudis want to be friends with Germany, they will need to show respect for her. She was right to refuse.
Our people should likewise refuse. And there should be no more bowing and scraping before Saudi monarchs.
