Given that the kid only had a knife, he should have been tasered.
I’ve heard high school campus police say, “I don’t care if it’s an 8 year old with a toy gun, I’m going to take them out.” And then the guy paused actually waiting for applause.
Given that the kid only had a knife, he should have been tasered.

Deadly force was answered by deadly force.
I disagree. This isn't a Hollywood scripted knife fight with skilled martial artists. It's a duty cop vs a kid with a significant length knife. He was ordered to drop it and persisted. The cop had no duty to risk his life or the people nearby by playing junior ninja knife fighter.
I live about 40 miles from this incident. It was on the news here just after it happened, and while students were still on the campus.
FIRST of all-—the kid had 2 knives—long knives—more like machetes. He was behaving erratic. I don’t know why the surrounding students didn’t try to get out of the area—but they seemed fascinated by the goings on.
The cop needed to STOP this student & keep him from harming anyone else. I didn’t hear one way of the other if a Taser was involved, but he kid was out of control.
For all the Monday Morning Quarterbacks everywhere—keep in mind that trying to stop/secure a person who might be on drugs isn’t an easy call.
“only had a knife”
Yeesh, only a knife? “Only a knife” can kill you faster than you can draw a pistol, if the person is within 21 feet of you.
Did the cop have a taser? If so, was it the kind you have to touch the person with or one that shoots out with wire tethers/conductors?
IF he had one and it was the kind you have to touch the person with...........screw that.
I guessed you didn’t watch the video a person who is twisting around like the person with the knife is very hard to taser.
One has to have good contact with both probes of the taser projectiles. The probes can be pulled out wires and be broken or one of the probes could have missed.
Have you ever used a taser.
Have you ever been severely cut I have and 11 years later the muscles in that area are still numb.
The threat Death or great bodily harm is the standard for use of deadly force. The chance that the knife user inflicting one or both was very high in this situation.
I would highly suggest that you and others do some edge weapons training to realize how fast and easy it is to kill maim or other wise harm you or someone else with a edge weapon.
