White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said during a press conference Monday it was natural for World War II veterans to be embittered about Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abes visit to Pearl Harbor, but they should get over it for the sake of America.
It was announced Monday that Abe will be the first Japanese leader to visit Pearl Harbor since it was hit by a surprise attack that killed 2,403 Americans and brought the U.S. into World War II. The visit reciprocates President Barack Obamas visit to Hiroshima earlier this year for the anniversary of the atomic bomb attack on the city.
Abe said in a short statement he would pray for those who died in the war, but gave no indication he would express regret for Japans surprise attack.
During a White House press briefing Monday, Earnest was asked whether veterans may be offended by Abes visit if he expressed no regret over the attack.
Earnest responded by saying veterans may very well feel embittered, especially if they personally fought in World War II.
If I were a World War II veteran who was drafted by the United States military to go and fight for our country overseas in the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack, I might feel quite embittered, and I think it would be a perfectly natural and understandable human reaction to not be particularly satisfied with the words of the Japanese Prime Minister, Earnest said.

A good friend of my father’s also survived the Bataan death march and a Japanese POW camp, though he had debilitating health effects from the ordeal for all of his life. To this day my mother age 90 will not buy a Japanese product if she can avoid it
Too bad they don’t teach about the suffering in Nanching the PI and Korea ((”comfort women”) and what the Japanese did to the Brits, Australians and other expats, many women and children, in Singapore when they took over
Yes, I do know.
Since you seem to think that Japan attacked only "military targets" I can only assume in Canada they don't study history. Or perhaps they only study Japanese history books.
It is one thing is to acknowledge the faults in one’s past, and quite another to be so guilt-ridden as to allow one’s self (or one’s culture) to be completely destroyed. I never said that Germany’s reaction was perfect, but at least they have acknowledged their nation’s/culture’s crimes.
Another thing to consider is that Merkel is an ex-Stasi officer, educated in East Germany. She seems to be on a mission to destroy Germany. She is the German Obama, raised to hate her own nation...though, of course, both are symptoms of the psychological sickness in their respective societies, because neither could have risen to power, much less achieved such a degree of “fundamental transformation,” without a lot of popular support.
I have no idea what Canada has to do with this, so I’m just going to leave you to play in your sandbox.
In 1996, I played the most important gig of my entire life...the 55th reunion of my state’s chapter of the Pearl Harbor Survivors.
They were a wonderful group of older gentlemen and their families, they thoroughly enjoyed my music, and there was not a single “embittered” one in the crowd that I could see.
However, I did note that there was not a single Toyota or Mitsubishi in the parking lot that night.
Which is perfectly understandable.
If Josh had served-—BS . This punk hasn’t got the gonads to serve this country.
I guess they never heard of the Rape of Nanking or the intentional destruction of Manila at the end of the war. Those pansies in the White House and the Democrat party would never have made this statement 20 yrs. ago, there were far too many WWII vets they would have offended. Now that generation is dying off they will become even more offensive in their defense of the WWII fascist powers.
Gwyneth Paltrow quote:
Criticizing people for being upset about 9/11: I find the English amazing how they got over 7/7. There were no multiple memorials with people sobbing as they would have been in America. There, they are constantly scaring people but at the same time, people think nothing of going to see a therapist.
And millions of Americans agree with you. I’m one of them.
There are no words that can express my contempt for this man whom is merely speaking the words of his boss, Barack Obama.
Actually, there are words but my post would be pulled.
And yet still talk about reparations....interesting.
Nah. Let ‘em suffer. And water cannons and rubber bullets for prptesters. The honeymoon is over.

Earnest has no right to say this, I checked his bio - he has never worn a uniform and really has no right to assume what a veteran would feel or should say.
