Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says Congress will act early next year to repeal President Barack Obama’s health care law but delay the changes as Republicans try to come up with an alternative. […]

Speaking in Louisville, McConnell cautioned that the law’s critics “can’t just snap your fingers and go from where we are today to where we’re headed.” He said a replacement to the health care law will be done in a “phased-in way.” …

Oh, you can also put dollars in employee pay checks (business deductible expense) and create 1.5x tax credit for citizens to encourage the purchase of insurance coverage

You can do that as long as you also repeal EMTALA and pass legislation to immunize providers against liability for refusing treatment to non-payers AND immunizing free clinics and county hospitals from liability for failure to meet the standard of private care.

In there words, you can do that when you start mining green cheese on the moon.

...you'll never be re-elected.

If your only goal is re-election then pass a law providing free healthcare for everyone. That ought to do it.

But there will be a replacement per Trump since he said it thousands of times. It will be market based, hopefully with vouchers, but it is not possible to transition overnight. It will take years. After all, Obamacare is not yet fully implemented.

Why does there have to be a replacement at all. If Obamacare has taught us anything it should be that government intervention in this area will only make things worse.

Haven’t the Republicans said they have an alternative waiting for the last several years?

However, Trump often mentioned buying insurance across state lines, which is something the repubs have been saying for years...

How exactly will that help?

Vouchers would be a big deal and I hope that happens.

Which is what Obamacare does for millions of people now. Why would it be better under a Trump plan?

The Dems snapped their fingers and voilà, Obamacare.

And there was a phase in period......it became the edict but took time to spin up.

Thankfully Trump doesn’t work at a turtle’s pace. The Turtle might try and slow things down once. After Trump jerks a knot in Turtle’s backside I doubt he will continue “taking time” to do the right thing.

“Any changes cannot take effect until policies issued in 2019.”

BS. Changes can be made NOW, if leaders in the House & Senate really wanted to make them. When a law is repealed all that BS about 2018-2019 vanishes.

The new DUMBOCARE DEA PAIN MED laws are harming those who have incurable diseases that leave a patient in constant pain that usually makes them unable to leave the house except doctor visits, many spend their days in bed with ice/heat packs. All he did was add a Pain Management doc and a big $300 co-pay 12 times a year to their medical care.
And the embarrassment of peeing in a bottle under supervision like a street junkie at 70+ yrs old or younger. These patients know they will never be totally pain free, but there is a BIG difference in a Level 9 and a Level 4 where you can semi function.

They have been talking about a “3 year transition” where the law would remain in effect and Congress figures out what to do before it sunsets. I wish they would all spontaneously drop dead.
A good start would be to have the new Secretary of HHS work to remove the special exemption that members of Congress have to being under Obamacare. Once Mitch and his DemocRAT buddies (and their aides) have to live under it, maybe they'll be a little more "enthused" about dealing with the problem.

The Republican problem is multiple bills. The task is to remove the drafts from the filing cabinets and integrate into something that is both workable and passable.

The most pressing and difficult issue is determining how long will it take for the insurers to adjust to the new reality. If say the new law can be crafted by May, will the insurers be able to roll out policies by November 17 to go into effect in 18?

Understood is that contracts for ‘17 remain in effect till 18 at least

Don’t kid yourself. The Republicans, particularly McConnell, do not want to get rid of obamacare. It does not effect them. They want it to remain so that they can say,”Elect me and I will get rid of obamacare” each election. And it works for them. They have had their opportunities to abolish obamacare. Each time they made excuses for not doing it. Never believe anything a Republican says. They [Republicans] will stab you in the back at the earliest opportunity. HR 6393 illustrates this well. Believe only what you see them do. Never believe anything a politician says. Never believe anything a member of the main stream media says.

This is crap. You passed how many “repeals” knowing Obama would not sign them... So I expect this repealed day one. I am tired of this garbage. Anyone who’s on it should have already renewed for 17. Repeal it letting it exist for those on it through 17 and transfer the subsidized to Medicare in 18 if you haven’t got a new law in place there is no excuse to delay its repeal.

McConnell should know there have been a dozen workable alternatives proposed by his fellow Republicans. I have to ask, where has this fool been for the last four years ?

How does congress change a contract between the insured and the insurance company without violating the Constitution?

Repealing Ocrapo-care doesn’t violate the Constitution. Congress has the power to this. Contracts can be renegotiated. Happens all the time.

ONLY decent thing McConnell has done in this entire Congressional session has been to say NO to Obama’s last Court

I am still holding my breath on that one.

The Senate just seems to love their senatorial process. Pence will have a larger presence in the Senate and can show the way through.
