According to two people close to the transition, Trump is moving away from two of the front-runners for the job, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP nominee. Giuliani's international business ties and public campaigning for the job are said to have rankled Trump. And while Trump has met twice with Romney, he's said to be aware of the risks of angering his supporters by tapping a Republican who was among his fiercest critics.
Former CIA director David Petraeus is still in the mix, though both people close to the transition said Trump's prolonged decision-making process has left the door open to other options.
One of the sources said Trump was open to expanding his short list of secretary of State prospects. Among the possibilities: Jon Huntsman, a former Republican Utah governor who also served as the ambassador to China and speaks Mandarin.

Rohrabacher is the best one, in my opinion.
When John Bolton speaks, I listen. Can’t think of anyone better for Sec. of State.
Rand knows and understands Constitutional principles well. He holds a very strong dislike of Bolton because he sees him as the a most aggressive war monger. So his differences are ideological. He is going to be hard to quiet, but I’m sure DJT will do his best, if Bolton is his choice.
It will be very sad to see him filibuster though, because the Dems will jump onto and exploit this exponentially.
Time will tell, although I hope he picks Rohrabacher. Paul should like him well enough, I would hope.

Agree. Rohrabacher would be a solid pick... I think Rand would be onboard with that pick.
I could go with Rohrabacher/Bolton as a compromise pick. Rohrabacher would solid, knowledgeable, and understated, not overshadowing Trump in any way. He also backs all Trump policies and never turned on him (loyalty). I like Bolton too but he’s a bit of a loose cannon.

Actually, Jon Huntsman and Mitt Romney can’t stand each other. They are cousins, I believe, but are very competitive with each other and don’t like each other. If Huntsman gets it and Romney doesn’t, Mitt’s brain is going to be fried at the thought of his fellow Mormon relative whom he has had a bad family relationship with for years, gets chosen by Trump for SOS. If Trump is truly out for revenge against Mitt Romney, then choosing Huntsman will make a mortal enemy of Trump out of Mitt. It will be a bridge too far and Mitt will take it as the ultimate humiliation. Interesting times.

The picture is priceless. That look on his face would take an A-list actor to reproduce. The eyebrows on Romney say, “I’m never going to be president.”
If Trump was smiling any harder his face would explode.
Then why has Jon Huntsman suddenly turned up in NYC, hmmmm? Expect to see him standing by the Up elevator in Trump Tower at some point in the near future.
If true, looks like President Trump decided to chop the baby in half, telling the two internally competing sides that neither could have their choice for SoS, which actually would be a very wise decision to halt the debate: no side wins.
Besides, there’s plenty of folks out there besides those two who would make fine SoS’s.

THe Corker bill is what allowed the TPP to almost become a reality. He is a free trader and comprehensive immigration (amnesty) supporter.
My guess is Trump already knows his SOS pick.
