ACCOMACK COUNTY, Va. -- They've been in classrooms for decades, but two classic American novels are now temporarily banned from Accomack County Public Schools.
Use of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" and To Kill a Mockingbird were suspended after a parent raised concerns about their use of the N-word.
There's so much racial slurs and defensive wording in there that you can't get past that, the mother said during last months school board meeting. Right now, we are a nation divided as it is."
She filed a complaint through a Request for Reconsideration of Learning Resources form.

Right now, we are a nation divided as it is.”
Because of people like you, lady.
Now if they want to be exposed to the N word, they’ll have to listen to rap music.
Fahrenheit 451 if they had their way!
To kill a mockingbird is the Liberal bible, the ban won’t last long
Captains Courageous will be banned too.
Make them all read Atlas Shrugged.
Liberalism has a new bible -- Rules For Radicals, Saul Alinsky.
Maybe they can get the Accomack County Firemen to gather up the books and safely burn them.
Gee, I don't know. Was it Harper Lee herself who publically reconsidered Atticus Finch? I think so! My take was she felt she was falling behind the curve, and wanted to catch up. Ah, Bartelby! Ah, humanity!
What happened to “embracing our shameful past”?
My wife was cleaning out some old trash this past spring and among the items to pitch was a First Edition “Tom Sawyer”.
I don’t care if it is racist, we are holding on to it.
“Defensive” “Wording” ???
A parent.
A = one.
Of how many in this school district?
Tyranny of the minority, much?
Shouldn’t they ban rap then?
Or would that be racist.
Make them all read MOBY DICK, even if it takes them three years. It’ll do ‘em good.
I’m going to go ahead and commit the sacrilege of admitting that I never particularly liked either of those novels. Even 30 years ago, I was sick of being nagged about racism.
Well, there goes my H P Lovecraft THE RATS IN THE WALLS, Joseph Conrad’s the NI*GER OF THE NARCISSUS, the south sea stories in the book THE LOST GOD by John Russell, and God help us if we mention the dog’s name in the book or movie THE DAM BUSTERS!
Somehow I feel we are reliving the movie THIS LAND IS MINE (1943) with Charles Laughton, in which the local teachers are given orders by their Nazi conquerors to tear out and burn certain pages of their books. Can the firing squads be far behind?
“THE RATS IN THE WALLS”
One of his best.
I don't know which school (I read these in H.S.)
Accomack County Public schools =
67.9% white
29.7% black.
So, I wonder if it was a P.C. white mother ?
I haven't chased the parent (she's named)
