The Senate Armed Services chair vowed to help move Mattis through the upper chamber's confirmation process. McCain, who will chair Mattis's confirmation hearing, told the Washington Examiner that he would write the bill to grant Mattis a waiver of the seven-year rule.
Not all lawmakers agreed on that Thursday night. Sen. Kristen Gillibrand, D-N.Y., a former Hillary Clinton supporter, said she is against changing that rule in order to accommodate Mattis.
"While I respect Gen Mattis's service, I oppose a waiver-civilian control of our military is a fundamental principle of American democracy," Gillibrand tweeted.

Gillibrand is a fool. She took over for Hitlery. Dems unfortunately rule the Senate seats here in NY because of NYC.
And since when do democrats care about rules?
If it was obama nominating him she would we be singing a different tune
I have always harbored a visceral dislike for Gillebrand ( I live in New York State).
When she first got elected there were fluff news stories raving about her “ability” to juggle work and motherhood; she left her young son (tiny at the time - less than a year I think or at minimum a toddler) in day care in D.C. and the whole thing just made me realize how screwed up are the priorities of these leftist feminists.
I realize and totally support mothers who have to work; however (based on PR news stories so pleased with her decisions regarding her being a senator using daycare in D.C.) this woman comes across as a feminist who cares more about power than her own children.
P.S. I am a grandmother (not some misogynistic man)
General “Mad Dog” Mattis = Modern Day General George S Patton
Love it!
When my nephew came back from Afghanistan (pre ObucketOshit) we met him in Virginia with a couple of his buds. We were throwing back a few in the motel room discussing our battle scars. I asked these Devil Dog warriors who they would follow into hell again and in unison they said, Mattis.
Speaks highly of a man.
She is just a publicity whore. It was a chance for her to get on camera. As they say about Schumer, the most dangerous place to be in DC is between Schumer and a tv camera.
She is learning well...
Charles Krauthamer made the best statement. something to the effect that if the little boats come out to challenge our ships, Trump will tell the mullahs to stop or he will have to speak with Mad Dog about it. Being able to call out a mad dog is beneficial
/Rant off
:: Wait until after Trumps swearing in. Write the bill, fast track it, use reconciliation, pass and sign it in a couple weeks total ::
Or...use the same mechanism of Obamugabe [he of pen-and-phone]; EO the legislation to be “of no effect”.
Easy.
Peasy.
Lemon-squeezy.
Gilly is a stooge for Shmucky SCHUMER. First time I heard say anything without getting approval from her master.
The Constitution is quite vague on the powers of the Senate with regards to appointees. Since there WERE no such secretaries even mentioned in the Constitution, and Washington sent their names for “approval” to Congress, these guys ultimately have no official say.
Could NOT have sent a clearer message to our adversaries. The left, however, will have quite a bit of trouble understanding it...
The left would’ve preferred a philosophy professor...
The law that restricts who the president may nominate, for the cabinet, should be unconstitutional, unless it’s a constitutional amendment.
Force it down their throats..like bad milk
The Cabinet isn’t in the Constitution, except to note that the President can ask the opinions of the heads of Executive departments. Those departments are *completely* a creation of Congress, who can restrict them as they see fit.
What is the seven-year rule?
Oh yeah, we can really trust McCain.
