I’m sort of glad they changed that, but it isn’t close to baseball’s biggest problem.

Baseball is being killed by free agency benefitting big market teams.

The sane small market club will keep a major league player 5 years and then dump them no matter who they are. Every 5th year they’ll have a chance for a “do you believe in miracles” type season.

If no one will pick them up, and if they have huge guaranteed contracts due to union rules, then I’d just cut them and bring in the newbies.

So now the allstar game is completely worthless?

This had to be one of the dumbest rules ever adopted in the history of organized sports.

Interestingly, we saw a rare case this year where the National League team benefitted from the DH rule more than the American League team did. The Chicago Cubs were able to add an excellent DH to their lineup (Kyle Schwarber) who was rarely used as a starter in the field because he was coming off a serious injury.

I guess it goes back to the all-star game being nonsense. Remember when they did not care enough to finish the game. Remember when half the players faked injuries to stay at home.

I do agree, if you get rid of the DH I will watch AL baseball again. Right now its too boring. Pitchers at bat are a large part of the strategy of the game. Its very exciting to see the pitcher up to bat with no outs and a tie game, man on first. Lots of things can happen. A very tricky part of the game.

Good. It was always a stupid gimmick.

I was rooting for the Tribe, but the fact that they had home field was a travesty. The Cubs had absolutely EARNED it over the course of the season.

Agreed on getting rid of the whole All Star Game deyermining home field nonsense. It’s an exhibition game; they should not have tried to give it false significance. Personally, I would have no problem if they just named All Star teams and didn’t actually bother to play the game. With free agency and interleague play, it’s just not special anymore. At one time, players were either NL or AL players. The All Star game was the only chance you had to see the best AL hitters fave the top NL pitchers (and vice-versa) on a eomewhat regular basis.

As for the DH, I agree in principle, but it’s not going anywhere. The DH gives older guys who can’t play the field but still can hit a chance to extend their careers and make tens or hundreds of millions of dollars in doing so. The MLBPA would never agree to eliminate it for that reason alone. Owners might, but what owner wants to see the ace starter who just signed a decade-long contract for a quarter of a billion dollars take a fastball to hos pitching arm and be sidelined? As much as this pains me as a baseball purist, both leagues should play by the same rules, and the only practical way to make it happen is to extend the DH to the NL. That will be a sad day indeed, though, if it happens.

They should just play an even number of games so no one has an advantage.

The World Series should be a six game series. Three at National park and three at American park. Or 2-2-1-1. If a 7th game is needed, a coin toss before the 1st game should determine the venue.

If it goes seven games the last game should be played in a neutral city.

The World Series Champion should be the team with the most wins out of 7. Unless the losing team scored more runs during the 7 games. In that case, they can cajole the league to be the Champion, with emails and tweets. Any funding needed for this process, to be paid by Soros.

Now to get rid of that pesky DH nonsense.

as long as we’re talking about dumping dumb sports rules, how about that ridiculous college and high school overtime in football; do what the NFL currently does...I was at a high school game recently which ended at 14-14; after 4 OT’s the score wound up 42-39, an absurd score, given the overall defensive efforts, as well as a physically arduous process...in the NFL, in OT, there’s a kickoff, as normal, and as long as the defending team doesn’t give up a TD right off the bat, the rules basically revert to sudden death...

Thank God!!!!!

The All-Star should be as intended - a mid-summer exhibition of the leagues best. The players play for pride and respect of their league.

Bud Selig is the devil. His garbage “reforms” of the game need to be reversed.

Put Milwaukee back into the A.L. Put Houston back into the N.L. No more season opening overseas garbage. Can the DH. Play some World Series games in the afternoon so kids can watch it again. Restore traditions. No major league season can begin until a Cincinnati Red standing on the mound in Cincinnati throws the first pitch of the season. That was the tradition until Selig. It was a tradition honoring Cincinnati as the first professional franchise.

This changes ...... nothing

This year's World Series had five of the seven games won by the visiting team.
