NY Post ^ | 1 December 2016 | AP

A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press the league that wins baseball’s All-Star Game no longer will get home-field advantage in the World Series.

Instead, that will be determined by which pennant winner had the better regular season record.

That will be a sad day indeed, though, if it happens.

as absurd as the DH rule is, high school ball goes a step further; catchers now get pinch runners...I was a catcher in high school; my 100 yd dash was timed by a sundial, and I’d have loved not having to jeopardize my team by screwing around on the basepaths...except it wouldn’t be baseball, would it...?

It may not happen. The players and the largemarket owners would probably favor it, but I could certainly see the small-market owners opposing. They don’t want to turn a $2 million per year utility guy into a $10 million per year starting DH, and they probably would not have any $300 million pitchers to protect.

The World Series should be a six game series. Three at National park and three at American park. Or 2-2-1-1. If a 7th game is needed, a coin toss before the 1st game should determine the venue.

The World Series should be a six game series.

also, logically, the season should not be ending the week before election day...bring back the Sunday twin bills...

I didn’t know that about high school baseball. Maybe they should just start letting teams have nine guys in the field and a different nine guys hitting. That would certainly improve the game, wouldn’t it?

(I hope the sarcasm is obvious)

As it should be! Now to get rid of that pesky DH nonsense.

Agree and agree! Make everyone on the field play BASEBALL.

I would be fine with or without the DH.

It's not going to go away, because the National League is the only organized baseball league at any level above high school that doesn't use it.

Now the ASG will be utterly meaningless again.

Always has been. The only thing it's good for is to give your battered players a few days of R&R.

If it goes seven games the last game should be played in a neutral city.

The All Star Game will not be “meaningless again.” It will simply serve it’s original purpose, a chance for fans to see all of their favorites from around the country playing together in one game.

There was nothing wrong with the old rule that had the home field advantage alternate between AL and NL teams every year.

You may be old enough to remember when the AL and NL were separate organizations. Each league had a president, its own umpires etc. Then it was decided to eliminate the league structures entirely. It’s now all just MLB. That the AL has the DH and the NL doesn’t is one last reminder of when the leagues were independent of each other. To me the DH is an abomination. But as you say, it is such a career extender, that players will never let go of it. Let the NL play real baseball and let its aging hitters drift over to the AL, just don’t ruin the NL by imposing the DH on it.

Personally, I would have no problem if they just named All Star teams and didn’t actually bother to play the game.

I would prefer that. But I'd still keep the All Star break. Let everyone have a few days off to recharge and tackle the second half of the season.

I didn’t know that about high school baseball.

I don’t know if it’s universal, but the local school league uses it...as well as those lousy tin bats...

I would agree with you for the most part, but the NL does itself no favors from a "purist" standpoint when it rolls out these lineups with pitchers who can't hit to save their lives.

Here's an interesting point about the DH ... What other differences do the two leagues have in their rules?

One of the reasons they play the All-Star Game is to raise revenue for the MLB pension fund to support players who retired long before high salaries made the average modern player independently wealthy.

Good! This was a bad way to decide it.

And screw the local fans out of a game 7 on their home field? Nah.

The World Series Champion should be the team with the most wins out of 7. Unless the losing team scored more runs during the 7 games. In that case, they can cajole the league to be the Champion, with emails and tweets. Any funding needed for this process, to be paid by Soros.
