One of the reasons they play the All-Star Game is to raise revenue for the MLB pension fund.
Back in the 60s, they actually played two games per year for the same reason.
But given that this is now 2016, I'm thinking that A) the pension fund is in pretty good shape; B) there can't be too many "poor" players left who need support.
If the fund dose need help, maybe the Mets' Yoenis Cespedes can donate a few bucks from his totally obscene 4-year, $110 million contract.
