The son your refering to said Donald was going to save Carrier before he really said it actually. Donald made the statement as a general statememnt and not actually targeting the plant in Indy.

So with this man coming out on national TV stating Donald would be keeping his plant here it got Donald’s attention. So Donald said the people(workers) here have this man’s son to thank.

A Carrier employee’s son, that is also an employee... who interpreted something Trump said about manufacturers not leaving the US, in particular- with regards to Carrier leaving, which Trump did not say he would specifically stop, but somehow Trump ended up with an obligation to stop Carrier due to the misinterpretation, is the story behind Trump referencing the son.
