Sure Romney bad-mouthed Trump during the election, and to many Trump supporters, that makes him an inappropriate choice as SoS or any other administration position.
I've seen reports of this opposition to Romney reported constantly on Fox News in the past week or so.
But what NOBODY seems to be talking about is Romney's glowing statements about Trump back in 2012, when he thanked Trump for endorsing his ill-fated presidential run:
Mitt Romney praises Donald Trump
I would be opposing Romney based solely on his aggressive anti-Trump actions and statement during the election. But if Trump should decide that Romney's virtues outweighed that behavior, I would suck it up and trust Trump's hiring instincts.
But given Romney's obseqious, self-serving praise of Trump in 2012, I will seriously doubt Trump's judgment if he should actually choose Romney for SoS.
The above video shows that Romney is a lying sack of crap without an ounce of personal integrity, and in my mind that fact alone disqualifies him from being anywhere neat the Trump administration.
Was Romney lying in 2012, or was he lying in 2016, or will he be lying now if he should actually issue an apology?
I've found it very frustrating that none of the reports on a potential Romney choice have shown this 2012 video. I think it should be played non-stop on every news or commentary show.
I can't believe that more anti-Romney Trump supporters are not raising this critical issue of Romney's proven lack of integrity.
I believe his magic underwear could work wonders on the international stage.
Agreed!
Tiger never changes spots, a tiger his stripes, a snake his nature.
He has many more honest and qualified, loyal to America and to Trump choices. For example Rudy.
The details....fall by the wayside. Romney is just simply a “no”. Yes, I would say “untrustworthy” is the main theme as far as I am concerned.
Giuliani...yes, I would agree to a position in the cabinet but I don’t really think SOS is it.
Romney's actions strongly suggested that he would have preferred Hillary to Trump in the White House, even though he won't admit that's the case because it would compromise the myth that establishment Democrats and establishment Republicans are mortal enemies. This and not criticism of Trump during the primaries makes Romney unfit for Trump's cabinet.
Romney did far more than bad-mouth Trump. He openly sabotaged Trump’s campaign, complete with running some stooge third-party opponent to take away votes which could have handed the election to Hillary Clinton. He could not even abide by the delegates of his own convention that openly and fairly chose Donald Trump.
It’s one thing for Ted Cruz to say awful things about Trump. It was a bitterly-fought nomination process and Cruz lost. Romney went a couple steps further by both words and deeds.
I’m glad to see Trump try to bring back together all the divided elements of the GOP to form a governing coalition against the Democrats but that doesn’t mean he has to give them jobs in his administration, much less high-profile “spokesman” job. I’d rather see Giuliani at the Department of Justice but if it came down to Giuliami vs Romney for State, I’d reluctantly choose Giuliani. At least he’s been loyal.
Haven’t we already seen the dangers of letting rogue agents run the State Department that have their own agendas more than the president’s at heart?
I can see Romney try to make a run again for the Presidency in 2020 against Trump once he “makes his bones” as SoS.
Back stabbers do not belong in Trump's administration.
I have better position for mittens....
Ben Carson’s Flunkey!

I wouldn’t put it past a SoS Romney to run for President in 2020.
What is that? A mole, a vole, a shrew?
Lack of integrity. Exactly.
I remember a good analogy I heard in a movie which shall be nameless. A young lady defended her hero by telling her mother, “A gentleman fits in anywhere.” Her mother replied, “A sponge fits in anywhere.”
Romney is a sponge.
He will be so smooth and accommodating, he’ll send mixed signals when he should be communicating firm resolve. And that’s his way. Not to mention his heart’s not with the Trump agenda.
Romney would be enough of an opportunistic backstabber to run against Trump in the primaries.
I wasn't thrilled with Nikki Haley as UN ambassador, but that's a position of no consequence. Having Mitt as Secretary of State would be much worse - it's a position with considerable clout, and he (unlike Nikki) has the underhanded intelligence and cunning to do some damage.
Mitt Romney
Looks like a vole to me.
I fully support Romney for a prominent position in the Trump Administration: Chief Sanitation Engineer for Zion National Park. Lifetime appointment.
Like most whack-a-doodles, you’re opposed to Romney because he’s a Mormon.
Drop it.
Trump’s admin is about getting the best qualified for the job. And Romney has fantastic experience helping ailing corporations and organizations
spot on.
