'We don't need the FCC': A Trump advisor's proposal to dissolve America's telecom watchdog
LA Times ^ | 11/24/16 | Brian Fung

Posted on 11/24/2016 2:46:48 AM PST by markomalley

A top advisor to Donald Trump on tech policy matters proposed all but abolishing the nation's telecom regulator last month, foreshadowing possible moves by the president-elect to sharply reduce the Federal Communications Commission's role as a consumer protection watchdog.

In an Oct. 21 blog post, Mark Jamison, who on Monday was named one of two members of Trump's tech policy transition team, laid out his ideal vision for the government's role in telecommunications, concluding there is little need for the agency to exist.

"Most of the original motivations for having an FCC have gone away," Jamison wrote. "Telecommunications network providers and [Internet service providers] are rarely, if ever, monopolies."

The FCC declined to comment for this story, but its current leadership has disagreed strongly with that analysis. Its Democratic chairman, Tom Wheeler, has spoken of an Internet service "duopoly" in much of the country that limits competition. And he has compared telecommunications to the rail and telegraph networks of the 19th century, calling for new rules of the road as the Internet becomes the dominant communications platform of the 21st century.

Once RF spectrum is auctioned off and made private property, then the problem is solved. No more “universal service,” no more FCC, no more telling us what can and can’t be published.

That’s the ultimate solution.

You are just getting ridiculous. Show me a Supreme Court case that backs it up.

You are just getting more irrational and combative against someone who agrees with a lot of what you advocate, but you just can give up your preconceptions about what parts are needed and what parts aren’t.

I understand in the recent victory over Hillary’s history and Obama’s tenure we all have a sense of “blood lust.” But that doesn’t mean we have to destroy everything. That’s just irrational.

Finally, as for your comments on what planet I’m living, go back to 1998 when I started here and read my comments and then tell me I’m a government liberal. Go away.

The EPA needs to lose all of its regulatory and enforcement power. It needs to be an advisory body only, advising the President. All necessary environmental regulations need to be legislated by the US Congress. The EPA should not be able to interpret anything or sue anybody or fine anybody.

First of all your stupid laws for the FCC , IRS etc are unconstitutional. So is Obamacare even though the supreme Court said it was doesn't make it so.

2. These government agencies are not even following the stupid laws that supposedly unconstitutionally authorized them .

3.The Constitution nor These stupid unconstitutional laws didn't authorize the IRS and Lois Lerner to oppress conservatives (you agree with that or what seems like you do),
4. Ditto for NASA to do Muslim outreach

5.Ditto for the FCC to censor the Internet. These agencies are becoming gestapos as in Lois Lerner, the FCC censoring the Internet etc. but you seem to be ok with that.

You are not for Constitutionally limited government .

What planet are you living on? have you been under a rock these 8 years? .I feel like I'm arguing with a pro government liberal.

Haley is marginalized in a harmless position. When does the US Mission to the UN Ambassador ever make news. If she defies trump, she is fired.

I am a lot more worried about Romney being Secretary of State.

You just keep repeating crap. Get a new argument after reading what I’ve posted. You can drill down to whatever parts you want, but you’ve gone so far off base it’s funny, really. For your own sake, stop.

It is Thanksgiving. I am so thankful we are talking about President elect Trump and not President elect Clinton. If Clinton had won, this would be the most depressing Thanksgiving ever. Instead, I feel younger and happier just on the hope that Trump will drain the swamp and push America away from the brink of socialist totalitarian oppression.

I am absolutely giddy about repealing Obamacare, which I thought was permanent, and I really held my breath election night praying the Democrats would not take the Senate. If the commie Dems had taken the Senate, nothing Trump wants to do would be possible, outside of executive orders.

I am very thankful that Trump has both houses of the legislature to implement his agenda, and 2 years to do it.

Don’t be afraid to go nuclear, Mr. President. The commie Dems set the precedent. Don’t be afraid to steamroll them back into the progressive stone age.

You are the attacker, frankly......what is so 'personal' to say you don't know what you're talking about or you just keep devolving into specific trivia? I even gave you references and valid circumstances for my reasoning which you ignored and lashed out in inanity.

I didn't hurl epithets to you like some of the stuff you've implied. You never once followed up on reading my thread of posts on this thread. Just more and more crap - all getting down to the internet.

BTW, I'll not reply to you anymore per your request because there isn't anything I can learn from you in the exchange.

“A clearing house for frequency assignment and deal with interference issues”

yep. that’s pretty much all that’s really needed in terms of regulation.

Yep. Let the FCC handel licensing amateur radio, commericial/public safety frequency coordination and broadcast radio and tv freq cootdenitation. They have no other need to get involved anywhere else.

“This is a terrible idea. “

Why? Do you think we need MORE regulation? Say, a truthy subcommittee of the FCC to determine “fairness” and “truthfulness” of Internet websites, with fines, penalties, and outright banning of sites like FreeRepublic and Brietbart? Or perhaps we should bring back official censorship like we had 70 years ago, but applied not just to TV and movies, but to cable TV and the Internet as well?

Or are you simply happy with the status quo of the soft fascism that exists throughout obama’s FedGov, where the alphabet agencies simply extort private industries far beyond their actual legal Congressional mandates by threatening infinitely long “investigations against politically targeted businesses and industries?

I haven’t renewed my ham license since the feds started their tracking of citizenry for the regime. i.e. the FCC has no business with my SSN !! This started with the nationwide effort to track all males for the purposes of child support laws. Guilty until proven innocence again.

I will say it again

i.e. the FCC has no business with my SSN !!
