Following student outcry for protection of undocumented students, Wesleyan University President Michael Roth declared this week that Wesleyan is a sanctuary campus that will not voluntarily assist the federal government in any efforts to deport students or faculty because of their immigration status.
Wesleyan appears to be the only school to publicly call itself a sanctuary campus, though other college administrators have expressed strong support for undocumented and immigrant students and are moving toward creating safe havens for those students,
Roth made the announcement after meeting last week with students, faculty and staff and conferring with the school's trustees.
Roth said that when he first heard the term sanctuary campus, he wasn't "exactly sure what people meant by it, but I was very interested in sending a message both to the campus community and beyond, that the kind of deportation proceedings that were discussed in the Trump campaign phase were anathema to our educational mission."
The model for the sanctuary campus, Roth, are the sanctuary cities like Hartford and New Haven that have declared their intention not to cooperate with federal officials in seeking to deport residents simply because they lack appropriate immigration documentation.
For Wesleyan, Roth said, that means, "We would not cooperate with any efforts to round up people, unless we were forced to."
If immigration officials were to come to campus, Roth said, "We would go to court and say where is the legal authority? We would not just cooperate ... Not that this place is a place to hide, but a place where faculty, students and staff can have their information protected."
Roth said that that through Wesleyan's alumni network, the university is putting together legal resources for members of the school community with questions concerning their immigration status.

What silly-putty ? This would not require any sort of Dictatorial powers for Trump, it would be almost automatic.
Certainly a school that has taken an official stance of aiding and abetting fugitives from federal law should lose its accreditation according to existing Department of Education policy. I’m sure there are already laws on the books that disallow federal funds or student aid to un-accredited colleges. The Department of Education ruined ITT last year by disallowing federal student aid due to their questionable business practices. Likewise, the IRS can and should review the tax exempt status of organizations based on criminal behavior. Wesleyan U is a tax exempt organization and that has certain strings attached which criminal activity would be a problem for.
Let get down to basics — the higher education “industry” is so bloated that half the campuses in the country could close down with no great loss to anyone except a relative handful of the scions of the bicoastal establishment.

Wesleyan University is NOT associated with the Wesleyan Church. Please make sure to make the distinction as there are 5 or 6 universities with “Wesleyan” in the title that are church universities.

“Wesleyan” could be United Methodist, but the Wesleyan Church is evangelical//holiness. Not the same.
Find the statutes and their judicial support, by all means. But I will not hold my breath waiting.

Wesleyan University was founded in 1831 by the original John & Charles Wesley Methodist Episcopal church in America. Sadly, the original sect, has all but disappeared now and finding a Methodist church that still hews to the original concept in nigh on to impossible now; sadly.

Elitism has its’ privileges you know, but no one mentions “white elite liberal privilege” openly.
Let them be “sanctuary campuses”. In the real world they will be looked upon as “padded inner sanctums” from reality.
The “reality shock” will come when they graduate and leave the ivy towers for a regular job unless they all are going to work for leftwing foundations and non-profits.

Truthfully, I wish that they had left the single sex private schools ( both boarding and colleges/universities ) as they were! They really was and still IS a very good reason for setting them up that way.
Yes, these schools ARE for white so called "privileged" people from the the upper middle - upper classes, with a few scholarships people thrown in and now, taking in students who have less than now way of keeping up.
Unless they ALL go into politics ( in some form ), teaching at other such schools, and/or working for lefty foundations, they are never going to find a job at all!
Newspapers are dead, so are magazine, there are more lawyers than there are jobs, and advertising obviously no longer hires anyone with any kind of brain, education, and talent.

All these Liberal gutter slimes should be held accountable when the criminal illegals they’re harboring commit crimes against US citizens. Sue them personally and sue the institutions who are keeping them employed. I wonder if Wesleyan’s board of trustees has considered the potential financial impact on the university when a student is murdered or a coed is raped by one of these illegals.
