South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, a rising Republican star and daughter of Indian immigrants, has accepted President-elect Donald Trumps offer to serve as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in the coming administration, according to a person familiar with the selection process.
The move, which will be announced Wednesday morning, was first reported by the Post and Courier , comes as Trump advisers are seeking to diversify his ranks and marks his first female appointment to a cabinet-level post.
The person spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a decision that has not yet been announced by Trumps transition team.
Haley, 44, who is serving her second term, has worked on trade and labor issues as governor but brings little foreign policy experience. Her views on various U.S. military and national security matters usually fall within the GOPs hawkish mainstream.
Trump met with Haley last Thursday at Trump Tower in New York as part of the round of meetings the president-elect has held.
If confirmed, Haley would be replaced by South Carolinas Lt. Gov. Henry McMaster, a top Trump ally. His ascension is seen inside of Trumps inner circle as a welcome consequence of her departure, the person said a way to promote them both.

Good grief. Can’t anyone see the chess moves here?
The President-Elect gets a top ally (McMaster) in as Governor of SC, and vectors off an unreliable mediocre republican to a post without real power. And he gets credit for diversifying his appointments.
It also screws with the ‘Trump is a sexist/racist” meme no end.
I suggested lat week that Trump could offer unimportant cabinet or other posts to Dim Senators in Red states where the GOP guv could appoint a GOP replacement. It would pad the senate in case any GOPe senators waffled or defected.
I suppose if the Lt Gov SC is really a Trump loyalist, the same logic could apply to replacing wishy-washy or opposition figures within the GOP.
Trump specifically stated that statements in the press are not to be believed. He said if they cite a “source,” it means they just made it up. (Not that you would listen to Trump, if the MSM is contradicting him.)
Provide a link to a direct quote from Trump, or a verified quote from one of his close associates, to confirm the smear-rumor that he had come anywhere close to selecting Kasich or Christie as veep.
Yes. And now he has sidelined her in a post where she has to toe the line or get fired. While a Trump loyalist takes over as Guv in SC.
Everyone’s saying it’s a do nothing position.
If it was someone we liked, it would be an important position.
It’s a ####y pick.
I didn’t know we were rewarding those that ####ed us.
It’s bad policy. And everyone will see right through it...I am hoping it is not true along with Romney SoS speculations
I believe the business term is ‘kicked upstairs.’ Promoted to a position that is a: harmless and b: out of the way.
I need to interject that ‘plenty of reports in the press’ has little or no meaning against the current backdrop of the corrupt news media.
I do not recall DJT or his closest advisors (e.g. Lewandowski, Mannafort, Conway) ever mentioning Christie or Kasich as being considered as VP or any post.
The press can say whatever they want, and they say many things that are speculations which they then pass off as emerging news fact with references to ‘sources say’ or ‘sources close to Trump say ...’. And Trump has repeatedly and frequently called the press to be liars.
With these facts, I would never ever consider relying on the MSM press and its deficient and deceptive reports for any information to guide my thinking process.
Just days ago NBC spread a rumor which they presented as a fact emerging that Ted Cruz was under consideration to be appointed to the Supreme Court.
I did not believe a word of it.
Instead, I caught a YouTube clip of Kellyanne Conway shooting that down hard. I’ll trust Kellyanne before any press reporter of the MSM.
This assignment is inconsequential since we shouldn’t even be a part of the UN.
Your second paragraph is spot on.
yep all these awful nasty people who did nothing to help this man...I want to know what Palin, Hannity, Carson, Huckabee, Christie, are going to be doing...tho none are perfect, they all got on the Trump train at the beginning...I reemember Nikki Haley NOT being supportive!
Veeeddy in-terrr-es-tink!
And veddy smart.
Agreed!
Thanks for that info. I hadn’t heard that Conway addressed the Cruz rumors. (Her rebuttal doesn’t appear to have garnered much attention.)
Agree with everything you posted. The MSM will say anything to undercut Trump or to stir up dissension among his supporters. By this point, we really should be on to them and their underhanded tactics, and should believe only what comes from Trump and/or his inner circle, as a result.
Now you guys are catching on! The UN is a joke and nothing more than a money pit and with any luck, Trump will demolish the building by Christmas 2017.
Yup. Too many linear thinkers here.
she’ll have her plate full with Russia, Syria, and an Iranian nuke deal that we want to get rid of
Haley will be able to do Trump’s work at the UN, as she is ethnically from the second-largest country on earth, with well over a billion people. Aside from all the negatives mentioned so far on this thread, she did manage to become governor of a state, so she has some political skills, to say the least. Trump will tell her what to do and she will be able to do it. It isn’t just a voting job.
