A number of Democratic Electoral College electors are planning to use their votes to undermine the election process in opposition to President-elect Donald Trump, Politico is reporting.
Some electors are lobbying their Republican counterparts to vote for someone other than Trump in an attempt to deny him the 270 votes required to elect him, according to the news outlet. They are also contemplating whether to cast their votes for someone other than Hillary Clinton
With at least six electors already vowing to become "faithless," the defection could be the most significant since 1808, when six Democratic-Republican electors refused to vote for James Madison, choosing vice presidential candidate George Clinton instead.
The electors acknowledge that it is unlikely that they will be able to block Trump from gaining office, Politico reported, but they are optimistic that their effort will raise enough questions about the Electoral College to reform or abolish it.
"If it gets into the House, the controversy and the uncertainty that would immediately blow up into a political firestorm in the U.S. would cause enough people — my hope is — to look at the whole concept of the Electoral College," one of the electors told Politico.
It’s unclear how many, if any, Republicans have signed on to the effort.
Twenty-nine states legally require their electors to obey the results of the popular vote in their state.

This ploy didn’t work in 2000 when only 2 electors needed to switch the results from George W Bush to Al Gore. How likely will it be with 35 electors? Whether President-Elect Trump wins by 1 electoral vote or 35, he still wins, according to the law of the land.
Besides, if the Dem electors want to change, who would they change to. Changing FROM Hillary, would defeat the point, wouldn’t it?

Are these people that stupid?/r They neither know the Constitution and the amendment process nor the history of why we have an Electoral College. People that stupid should be institutionalized to prevent them from hurting themselves and others.

This sounds suspiciously like the stories circulating about a “brokered convention” and then the ones about the #nevertrumpers stealing the nomination away from him at the convention. It gives the media something to yammer endlessly about, at least until December 19th, at which time they’ll be forced to yammer about something else.

Unfortunately yes, but the reform they want may go in the direction of above abolishing the mostly ceremonial electoral college of states and resorting to a winner takes all republic representation.
one of gore’s electors (from DC if I recall) didn’t vote for Gore. But of course she would have if it mattered.
The six “faithless electors” better change their names and go into the witness protection program.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that this is true for some states but not all.
