Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, a high-profile Bernie Sanders supporter during the Democratic primaries, is under serious consideration for various Cabinet positions in President-elect Donald Trump's administration, according to a senior official on the transition team.
According to the official, the 35-year-old Hawaii congresswoman is being looked as a candidate for secretary of state, secretary of defense or United Nations ambassador. If selected, Gabbard will be the first woman as well as the youngest pick for Trump's Cabinet.
She met with him this morning in his New York City offices at Trump Tower. The Trump transition source said that their sit-down was a terrific meeting and that the Trump team sees her as very impressive.
Gabbard, a progressive Democrat, has bucked her party in Congress and during the contentious Democratic primaries.
In February she left her position as vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee to support Sanders.
In the House she has broken with Democrats on the Syrian civil war (she supports keeping President Bashar al-Assad in power) and Syrian refugees (she voted for a GOP bill last year to conduct stricter background checks on refugees).
This afternoon she released a long statement on her meeting with Trump, saying he asked to meet with her about "our current policies regarding Syria, our fight against terrorist groups like al-Qaeda and ISIS, as well as other foreign policy challenges we face.

RINO extraordinaire and like most South Carolina Republicans, a Cheap Labor Express stooge.
Not Guilty!
Then she's not really a Democrat.
There are positions that only can be filled by Democrats. I wonder how President Trump will fill those positions, and with whom?
She seems to be an unusual and interesting individual.
And take away one of a few power-players from their already weak bench. Brilliant...
No matter the B.S. no Dem appointed by Trump is going to scour the Cabinet Level Department to rid it of glut, waste, bias ... This lady would not have it in her to do DEEP CLEANING as is needed in the Cabinet Level Departments ... I say no ... Give her some position where she can do no harm by being namby pamby compared to a hard core Conservative ...
Would elevating Tulsi infuriate Graham and McCain?
That’s the most likely spot for her — at the UN. Gabbard is very blunt in the way she talks about the need for peace with Syria and Russia. Trump will need someone to give the EU what-for on this.
If he appoints a Rat, no matter how good the resume... not good. This has got to be disinformation for ene-media consumption.
That’s Flynn.
She is impressive, withstanding Hillary’s pressure. But she’s a Bernie fan, and although she agrees about middle east adventures, there is very little that she could be appointed to where she would agree with the administration. Talking to her gives me insight into why he was talking to Mitt. He is listening to opponents, schmoozing them, but they will not get appointed, IMO.
She’s on the same page as President Elect Trump re the Mideast, she’d be WONDERFUL at knowing what services younger veterans need, and I think she’s opposed to the bad trade deals. If bringing her on board could siphon off Bernie supporters from supporting the maniacs, it would be terrific
What position? US Trade Rep? Maybe. Undersecretary of Veteran Affairs? Sure. But nothing substantial.
I’d trust President Elect Trump to use her talents where they’d be most valuable.
If you post a picture of your gf/wife may be you will be proven right.
I trust Trump too, I just don’t think he’s planning to hire a Bernie Sanders leftist from Hawaii. He is coopting her by just chatting with her. And by talking to her, that made me see what he was doing with Mittens. I could be wrong, it’s just speculation. We will see.
Tulsi Gabbard holds identical position on foreign trade as Trump. That is why she made a trek to the Trump Tower.
Interesting history...I can see why Trump is talking to her. She’s not your everyday, ordinary democrat.
