In an interview with National Public Radio on Sunday, retired Army Gen. Jack Keane said that the U.S. military could defeat the Islamic State if the commander-in-chief asks for and implements its plan.
Host Rachel Martin was interviewing Keane about his decision not to accept President-elect Donald Trump’s offer to serve as Defense secretary, but the report included questions about Trump’s remarks on the campaign trail that he knows more than the generals when it comes to defeating ISIS.
“The military knows how to fight a war,” Keane said. “And I told [Trump] - if you're going to do what you suggest - said you were going to do and ask for a campaign plan from the Pentagon for how to defeat ISIS, believe me, you'll get a comprehensive campaign plan with many options in it that this president has never asked for.”
Keane said that, in fact, Obama routinely did not take the advice given to him by the military or, if taken, “reduced” those recommendations.

Obama’s goal was not to stop ISIS, but to GROW it.
Suspect the absolute worst about Obama and never be disappointed.
I’m just about ready to earn a zot for stating the obvious.
This really brings up a larger issue...did Obama send troops into harm’s way knowing the plan was underpowered and more likely to, not just fail, but cost American service members their lives???
Just like Benghazi, the American should know about their President ...what he was informed of, that he knew the cost for his own plan, and acted in his way in spite of the cost in lives...all to no end.

He never had any intention of letting America, aka “The West” beat his fellow mohammadens.

Keane’s wife died this June, and General Keane said he was not ready for duty yet.

Why would Barack Hussein Obama ask for a plan to take down his buds in ISIS? That wouldn’t make any sense (to him).
So your solution is not to have generals and admirals? If the citizenry repeatedly elects an idiot, how is that their fault? Not being overly critical, just trying to follow the logic.

By the time a person reaches Flag rank, admiral or general, they have enough years in to retire, and their retirement would be comfortable.
That means that they have the option to retire from the military at any time and speak out on any problems they see.
None of them did that.
Keanu said they all knew the fighting was for nothing.
They had the opportunity to retire and speak out about this senseless misery, and they chose not to.
That makes them cowards.
Moral cowards, but cowards just the same.
I know all about the argument that they have to stay and fight for their Service.
That’s a bullshit excuse.
They stood by and let the misery continue.
And it is misery.
Kids with no Dad. Brothers gone. Bodies broken. Constant hatred with no end in sight.

And our generals and admirals let us all down because they were afraid.
I took my Dress Blues and my old Class A uniforms and threw them into the street after Comey refused to prosecute Hillary Clinton for espionage.
I would throw them into the street today if I still had them.
That is how much this sickens me.
He wanted and needed ISIS, he never lets a crisis goes to waste, and so he used ISSI to create a massive refugee swarm. He then got Merkel on board with his agenda.

I hear your frustration and there were a few that paid with their careers (Mattis/Ham) but as a practical matter it did not advance anything. If all the GO/FOs resigned, would a department ran by O6s be a better solution? Keep in mind that even in the worst of times, good leaders are needed to ensure the BS doesn’t get too crazy. I see that in government too. Frustratng I know. Hopefully we come out the other side for the better.
General Keane’s wife has just passed away. He is in the grieving process. This is why he turned Trump down.
