Tech company CEO (PacketSled Harrigan) fired after threatening to kill Trump
WDBO ^ | 11-15-2016 | Joe Kelly

A California-based network security company has accepted the resignation of their CEO of he threatened to kill President-elect Donald Trump.   Matt Harrigan, the now FORMER CEO of PacketSled, went on a Facebook tirade on election night. The series of angry messages were part of a private thread that someone exposed through a series of screenshots.  In those posts, Harrigan made quite clear the intent to kill Mr. Trump:

“I’m going to kill the president. Elect.”  “Bring it secret service.” “Getting a sniper rifle and perching myself where it counts. Find a bedroom in the whitehouse that suits you motherf***er. I’ll find you.”  “In no uncertain terms, f*** you America. Seriously. F*** off.”

And just in case Harrigan hoped to find peace in his community of San Diego, Harrigan stuck the last dagger in the heart of that community with his Ron Burgandy-like quip "Really San Deigo? Trump? Go F*** yourself San Diego."

and you want me to respect his rights of “free speech”????

Yes. I was hopeful that you'd support free speech. It saddens me that I'm mistaken.

If you check the company, it is privately held, but they raised $8MM through venture capitalists. A FReeper yesterday, posted a link to a website that had some details about this. I could not find it, but here is another link with some info. One of the Principals of one of these funds on the other link, is on the Board of Directors and the 'angels' sometimes take controlling interest.

'He who pays the piper, calls the tune.' The shareholders (angels) through the BoD, have called the tune and asked Dandy Don Meredith to sing it: "Turn out the lights, the party's over..." for the CEO, the would be 'sniper'.

One addendum to what I said....

There is a definitive difference between 'free speech' and what this guy said.

I recall that, after Obama was elected, many on our side were quoting a particular Scripture, Psalm 109:8, as a prayer for Obama..."May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership" (NIV).

Contrast that with (from Inquisitr.com)...

‘I’m going to kill the president. Elect,’ Harrigan declared on Facebook. When someone cautioned him about making comments that could attract the attention of the FBI or Secret Service, Harrigan said, ‘Bring it secret service.’ When one of his buddies said ‘you just need to get high,’ he went into disturbing detail about his plans.” “‘Nope, getting a sniper rifle and perching myself where it counts. Find a bedroom in the White House that suits you, motherf***er. I’ll find you.’"

Quite the difference there. Free speech versus open threat.

“He founded and OWNED the company, when he took the company public HE was no longer IN CONTROL!!! Just like Steve Jobs the BOD fired him!!! They did not pick him!!!’n”

The company never went public, it went through a seed and a Series A round.

He should be interrogated, arrested, tried, convicted and sentenced to the full extent of the law for seditiously, personally threatening to KILL the President elect of the United States.

I think your comparison is inadequate. We know that the following is free speech:
If they ever make me carry a rifle the first man I want to get in my sights is L. B. J.
Compare that to this political hyperbole that you'd like to see no longer protected by the 1st Amendment:
I’m going to kill the president. Elect. Bring it secret service. Nope, getting a sniper rifle and perching myself where it counts.
While Harrigan's statement is clearly provocative, it is very similar to Watts' provocative statement.

In the end, it doesn't matter. Prosecutors and the courts will never take this case. The 1st Amendment still matters to them to some degree.

“Apple fired Jobs and it was his company....”

The company was public when he was fired. Jobs had around a 10-11% equity stake at the time. It was not “his” company. John Sculley was the CEO and had the backing from the Board. Jobs was a VP or SVP at the time.

” He probably got a good golden parachute.”

Not necessarily. Investors usually have a morals/conduct clause in their agreements - and when you screw up, you don’t have a pot of gold when you exit. He does get severance and retain his equity stake.

I have one, and all my officers have such an agreement with our investors. But to be honest, I’ve never heard of their investors.

On another note, I had asked another FReeper about PacketSled’s governement contracts, but have not seen anything. Other than the City of San Diego’s contract.

My company’s contracts with the Feds has been publicized and we are a much newer entity than PacketSled, and in a different niche.

I always thought it was damage joy). A few German exchange students explained it as such also.

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/schadenfreude

Etymology Borrowing from German Schadenfreude ‎(“joy in the misfortune of others”), from Schaden ‎(“damage, misfortune”) + Freude ‎(“joy”). The word gained popularity in English in the late 20th c.[1] and likely entered mainstream usage through an episode of The Simpsons[2] (more in citations).
